home made front lip?

I have heard that you can make cheap front lips with stuff from home depot or lowes. What do i need to do it and is it worth it?

Gardening trim, zipties (or black duct tape if your car is black... or bolts), scissors ....... thats it I think.

jramosthe1st! 05-31-2008 08:31 AM

no it's not worth it, it looks terrible.

do you really want gardening trim on your car? ive seen some decent but meh. just go with a xenon or pignose lip, depending on what bumper you have.

my friend tried that on his neon...it looked horrible.

wish there was a homemade kouki lip

crazydrifter 05-31-2008 09:25 PM

i was just wondering cause i went to the junkyard the other day looking for one but all 4 240s there had no bumpers.

i can see where these lips could look very horrible.. but i took the challenge and i think i succeeded pretty well.. i used my factory lip ( 95 zenki ) and sanded it down with 100 grit. then cleaned it very well with paint thinner. stuck double sided adhesive tape all over my factory lip. i measured and trimmed off excess plastic from the garden edgeing and cleaned it very well then with a helping hand started on one side and slowly pressed it on to my lip while it was still attached to the bumper.. that helps keep the same you want... and thats pretty much it... now you can scrape where ever and not worry about it cause it costed like $20 for everything...
hope that helps...

im interested in seeing that. do you have a picture?

lol @ gardening trim...
nah dude, u will not be happy with it at all, it will look horrible and it is very worth it to wait until u find a lip, even one in halfway decent condition can be repaired an made awsome again with a lil TLC

jackibenoist 09-27-2008 08:21 AM

Doesn't look too bad, in my opinion.

EDIT: Write up with pictures - http://forums.nico*club.com/zerothread?id=293828 just take out the star between 'nico' and 'club.'

hmmm, thats looks okay for 10 bucks or however much it cost. but im sure some poeple would disagree, cuz you can ziptie the hell out of a bumper but a homemade lip well that just goes too far my friend, too far... but im a cheap date so i like it.

crazydrifter 09-27-2008 11:53 AM

just got a pignose lip th other day and im glad i didnt do the gardening trim, and it was only 60 bucks.

Nitrous2k 09-28-2008 07:22 PM

im going to try to make one, not the trim piece, but with fiber glass and this random huge ass sheet of plastic i found in my garage, i will post later if it turns out :)

go to home depot, find someone who actually knows where things are.
ask for self adhering base board molding. it comes in a little box and is rolled up, contains 20ft of this stuff...

you are going to want to get a tape measure and measure the front lip area of your car. i have done this. because my stock lip was cracked, looks much more legit than garden hose stuff... i'll look for a pic of my car later today
