Compressor Surge?

So I'm online, talking with a few people about Compressor Surge and Bypass valves. We're watching this video on Nobuteru Taniguchi's S15, and it appears to ME that the car has pretty bad compressor surge. Other's swear it's a BOV, but looking in the engine bay, it's recirculated. I'd like your opinions on what this might be.

Here's the video:

Let me know what you guys think. I think it's Compressor Surge. Yeah, thats me arguing with some of the locals lol.

na some people confuse surge with SSQ BOVS also some people don't run BOVs and yes you will get the awesome sounding, but it will shorten the life of your turbo..... those people pretty much dont have to ask how much anything cost lol.... im a suspect of letting surge run wild with my last turbo before the end.. i upgraded to an FMIC and i notice i was getting surge.. sounded so cool and about 2 months later i devleloped massive radial and axial shaft play
