98 240 Sub

98 240 has half of the trunk taken up by the gas tank, some kind of safety change. I allready lost half of the trunk because of that, and I am planning to put probably 2 8" in there between the gas tank and right bellow the rear speakers, facing the rear seats. I would have to build a custom box for that... and I am wondering if anyone has the same trunk design ? Let me know what u did about ur sub if anything, thanks.

the more surface-area you have, the more air you will move...thus the low end base that you fill.

If you want to use 8" subs, your best bet would be to use some free air subs. I have a pair of Blaupunkt Velocity subs that I used to use in my old car. It was a Cougar, with a lot more trunk then our 240's. The subs hit real nice. I don't know what kind of sound level your looking for. If your asking about 8's then I would assume its just a nice clean sound your after.

Hit me up with an IM sometime.

I'll send you pics of the subs. The subs handle 150watts. Not sure what the RMS is though. I also have a 10" MTX 8000 series Sub. Big *****....

a sub can produce low base, that's what they're for.
an 8" will not produce as low of a tone as a 15", but the 8" will sound much cleaner as it can vibrate faster. I've never heard a 15" that didn't sound like ****.

ummm i dunno...not saying i disagree, just saying i'm not sure...about the 15's that is....i've only heard 2 or 3 15's and i'd have to say they sounded like dog butt...but only 'cause they were just TOO much bass, and it just didn't sound right....

on the other hand, the 8 wont be able to preform....almost like the 8 is TOO small....i think u should bite the bullet and go with a 10 inch....the 10 will sound a lot better than the 8, wont take that much more space, and in my opinion will preform a lot better

I am afraid I dont have the option of going with the 10. Just because my trunk is different from yours, half of it is taken up by the gas tank. 97 and 98 models are like that. If i put in 10, i wont have any space left... and that kinda sux... I think I will just find 2 good 8" and make a nice custom box for them. May be build like a kicker or something.

Yeah, thats exactly what I want to do. Its a time consuming project though... May be this holliday season i will get through it . I dont really care about what it sounds like outside as long as it sounds nice inside. I used to have 2 12s in my old 240 400 W each and that **** was loud, I think I lost some hearing because of that. So now I just want quality vs loud.
