Anyone know of a good brand of Speakers?

hey my rear speakers were stolen out fo my car beforei bought it and need to replace them but i was wondering what are some good brands. I know absolutely nothing about them, But I wanna go top notch. I mean like maybe up to 100-150 a speaker.

I heard JL audio is good? anyone?

What would you like them to sound like? Do you want clarity, or some bass, mids, highs, maybe all?

If you have a aftermarket headunit, I would go with a speaker that has between 100-300 watts max. If you want to go more than that, is fine, but you may want to look into getting a small amp, a 4 channel, with 200-300 watts max per channel, then hook one speaker to one channel of the amp, then tune the amp to the best sound that you like!

If you want both clarity and bass, I would go with a 2way/3way speaker... 2way has one main speaker, and a tweeter, and the 3way has one main speaker and two tweeters.

It also depends on if you want to stick with the stock speaker size, I think 4" for the front, and 4x6 for the rear???

If you don't want to stick with the stock speaker sizes just google search or ebay search "Speaker Adapters" (You think I'm going to do all the work here? May I should take my own advice on searching for stuff, LOL) Ebay 240sx speaker adapter

If you want some good 2way/3way speakers at fair prices then click here

Cardomain has fair prices IMO, they have the following brands:

Audiobahn
Clarion
Infinity
Kenwood
Lighting Audio
Phoenix Gold
Polk Audio
Sony
Blaupunkt
Image Dynamics
JBL
Kicker
MTX Audio
Pioneer
Rockford Fosgate

You may want to look into Component Speakers they are around 100-400 watts, a littly price though for just a pair. But well worth it, it's what I have in my car.

JL Audio is ok IMO, if you want that brand go for it! I'm not saying anything bad about them.

IMO, I like MTX, I've blown many subs and speakers of different brands (Rockford Fosgate, kenwood, pioneer, JL Audio, Audio Bahn, yet I have not blown a mtx speaker or sub!!!

Um, he's got a 1997 so he's rockin 6.75"s in the rear, not the dinky 4x6ers that unfortunate S13 owners have to deal with.

I have $50 Pioneers in the back, because honestly that's all you need. Rear speakers are for 'fill'; the main sound should be coming from the front speakers. If you want to spend $100-150 on speakers, you'd be much better off spending that money on an upgraded FRONT speaker set. Since you have an LE I'm assuming you have the 6-speaker system like I do (tweeters in the A-Pillar)... if that's the case, I'm running Kenwood triaxials in the doors and Polk Audio tweeters up high, and it sounds great (with aftermarket head unit, of course).

Anyhow, may I suggest that instead of dropping the whole $150 for rear fill speakers only, how about looking for a decent set of 3-way 6.75" front speakers for around $100 a pair, then spend the extra $50 on a regular set of 6.75" Pioneer or Kenwood rear speakers... that way you upgrade both ends within the budget =)

Infinity all the way for the front....Pioneers will do their job in the back...

CValle86 10-15-2005 05:47 PM

welll...I have an SE not an LE that's cool LE's have a 6-speaker system i didn't know that. But yeah I thought according to a previous thread in this forum they said we had 6.5in speakers in the rear and doors? Will 6.75 fit as well or something?

I've done some searching and I think I'm goin to buy some infinity Kappas 63.7I 6.5in They are priced at like 199 a pair but ebay has em much cheaper. I want to buy 2 sets of them, prolly gunna cost me like 235 for 2 sets other than the 400+ at best buy or something.

Boston Acoustics are my favorite.

RB26DETT_240sx 10-18-2005 02:14 AM

MTX Audio all the way for me, and some Phoenix Gold Line Drivers for me.

and if I were rich, I'd go with JBL, cause, they make one mean amp, 6000 watts x 1 @12.5v RMS Click Me for better Specs

Honestly--everyone has their own opinion of what sounds good. Best thing to do is go to a car audio store, or a store which has a car audio section and listen to the speakers. Of course they will sound different in the car, but you will be able to have a general feel of how they sound.

i would say that if you have the cash, boston acoustics is hard to beat.. they have awesome clarity and definition.

l2aine 11-02-2005 12:29 PM

If you're gonna spend over $100 for rears, just get good new front's (same size) and move the "less-capable" fronts you have now to the rear... you want all the good sound up front, not behind you.

LA_phantom_240 12-01-2005 03:23 PM

I beg to differ with you on that... I think that they should be about equal as far as sound production... sounds dumb when all your sound comes from the doors.

240Boogyman 12-02-2005 07:20 AM

I agree! You want the sound to surround you, you dont want the sound coming from one place no matter what. Right now most of mine is coming from the rear. Soon to be fixed!

I just bought a Boston Acoustic component speaker set which had 2 S60's and two tweeters, it also came with the crossovers. I put all that in the front, then for the back some cheap Sony's . I also have a Kenwood head unit. I wired everything to an 800 watt 4 channel amp and it sounds great, lots of bass and extremely clear, it was a little pricey though because i had to buy the kit thing with all the wire and the fuse which goes on the battery to power the amp. It was a ***** to get all the wires through the car so it looked good though.
