Double DIN - definitive answer?

I'm trying to find out whether I can fit a double-DIN stereo headunit in my 90 240. It's obviously got the double sized dash opening, but I'd like to hear from someone who's actually done it. After I get the car running the stereo will probably be the first purchase (stock headunit was scrap). The only thing that'll keep me from doing it (if in fact I can) is that under the stereo is a great place for guages and boost controllers and other happy things :D

Thanks in advance.

I haven't done it, but I know you can. I wanted a double-din headunit, but they don't sell CD/MD ones in the US.:tear:

So even though Crutchfield doesn't list any doubles as fitting the S13, they'll go in anyway? I'm mainly worried about the depth of the stereo chassis interfering with the hump under the console...

You wouldn't happen to know where I might find pics of somebody having done this?

Thanks again.

Is this what you are looking for?
I got this on my car this past saturday from Ebay, it fits pretty good and there's nothing on its way plus its got mad Tape player sound thru the stock speakers(LOL)
Let me know if this helps you and if you have any more questions..:thumb:

That's close. I'm not talking about two units joined (like the factory tape and EQ) - I mean one unit that's double sized, like this:

http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/pro...00M_dmt-1.jpeg

It would completely fill the hole in the dash, doing away with the pocket.

I'm still thinking about whether to do it or not; I'm just exploring options...

240duffman 08-18-2003 05:50 PM

Oh, I guess it should fit, why dont you give Crutchfield a call?
And if it helps, ever tought of having your gauges on the dash using the Greddy gauge holders? looks good...

Rittmeister 08-18-2003 07:02 PM

Where on the dash, and what Greddy holders?

I'm not sure what guages I'll be installing (it won't be until after the engine swap in any case); most assuredly boost, probably oil pressure. I'm unwilling to give up dash vents, and I was planning on at least two guages being on the A-pillar. I was thinking that the pocket under the radio would be perfect for the boost controller, and whatever else; maybe even EDFC, if I get REALLY silly with the suspension.

BTW, the above pic is from Crutchfield, and I just did a slightly more extensive search; before, I'd go through the "what fits my car" model year make/model etc, then click CD receivers. It didn't show double DINS because I didn't choose "CD/Tape" - when I did that, lo and behold there were several that Crutchfield say will fit...

This one's...
gauge holder

240duffman 08-19-2003 04:43 PM

Link doesnt go to the right location, just press "gauge accesories" on the page it takes you to...

Rittmeister 08-19-2003 05:28 PM

Ah so, I have run across those in my searching. I'm looking for more of a "pod" that looks at home on the dash and hides the wires, maybe right above the center vents. The RX-7 has one available that actually replaces the center speaker right on top of the dash, that might be adapted.

Anyways, this is a long way off, after the engine swap etc. I need tunes much sooner!
