Installing 4X6 Speakers.

I know about the 6.5's that are able to fit with the custom mount. But I'm just too damn lazy and not that into my audio that I need some high-po system.

Anyway - I bought the Rockford Power T1462C series 4X6's and am having a hell of a time to get it into the front door panel. The door is off but it just doesn't seat properly in the door. Any suggestions? Anyone else install 4X6's?

you didn't have to get the whole door off if you did! E-mail me and I'll send you a file that can help you.
Oh and you should have used the search button, someone might rip you a new one for not checking but your like the millionth person who has had the same problem. I got a good pdf file if you want it.

You'd def. get more sound out of the 6.5 for the same amount of work...

lexan = flex... flex = nasty sound... unless you use like 1/2in. lexan, youre going to get crappy sound... I would recommend using 3/8 medium density fiberboard (MDF) If you choose to make a custom mount... I used 1/2 in. and the foam surround rubs ever so slightly on the door panel, so i need to make it thinner. If you choose to go with a 4x6 let me ask you something... Is there a lot of circuitry behind the old speaker? If so, take out the whole plasic mount, take off all the old screws, and take that amp off the back of the plastic. Ill try to find which wires are your +/- leads... its here somewhere. anyways, i just cut the wires off the amp, and used the +/- leads to power my speakers. Sounds good too... ill post a pic when i can...

Ok, my 4x6 isn't some super duper bass pounding sub.. lol
No flex at all when at the loudest I can stand. a 4x6 puts out very little bass. Not even enough to really hear really. I kept the 4x6 cuz I have a sub. It's more of a large tweeter for me than anything.

And oh yeah
I tried using 3/8in mdf first... It wouldn't clear the door panel in my car. Thats why I ended up with lexan.

The lexan I'm using is very sturdy. Even when I push on it it barely flexes at all. If you screw it down tight to where you're almost stretching it to fit it wont flex at all.

Now sure, if you're putting a 100-150w 8" in there, then you might feel some flex.

i used some lexan for my rear 4x6's and theyre hooked to a 4 channel amp with my door speakers and they sounded soo bad. I jsut went and modified the original mount and use it instead. But if youre using a 4x6 you might be able to get away with lexan if youre not putting a lot of power into it.

Audiobahn = suxor...

If you want good 8"ers, go hunt down some kicker substation tubes, and take the speakers out of em... True, they are old (probably 8 years or so), but i had 2 of em in my trunk for a good long while and they rock the house...

The moral of the story, kicker owns the 8" category.

Why not something like this Nice little six inch sub. 75 watts RMS isnt bad. Its just to fill on the bass between the Subs and the speakers. Mid-bass drivers basically. They have eight inch models too if your ambitious...
