SR20 swap in Canada

Hello everyone, nice to meet you all. I just joined this forum and it's nice to be in this informative place. :)

I just got my '90 240 and plan to do the SR20 swap ASAP. But the problem is I don't know any reliable tuner who can do it for me.

If anyone knows any trust worthy shop in Alberta, Canada, or in Vancouver, BC, Canada, please refer me to them. I'm looking for a long-term business relationship with the tuner if I'm satisfied by their work.

Thank you very much.

there is not much in Alberta. I'm from edmonton and plan on doing a RB20 or SR swap some time in the next year myself. there are a couple shops in BC that can do it for you but the charge an arm and a leg ( almost 1500 CDN). it is not hard becuause you can send your harness to either SRSWAP.COM or unstable-hybrides and they will convert it for about 150 USD. Hit me up sometime

PS have you look at imorting engines?
ther is an 11% tariff plus about a 200 customs fee and tax on top of the engine and shipping.

Peace

To RS13:

Thank you for your reply. :) Too bad the only thing I can do to my car is refilling windshield water and changing tire. But CAD $1500 for the labour is still within my budget.

The thing I didn't expect was the tariff, custom fee, and tax. Does that mean, for example, if the engine + shipping is $5000, tariff will be $550, custom fee $200, and 7% GST on the engine ($5000)?

Guess I need to figure out all the costs before I go for it.:dunno:
Thank you very much again. And I'd like to meet you in person some time.

Cheers.

R u in edmonton or clagary?

RS13, I see. Then in Canada, what's the lowest reasonable price on a good quality SR? I think I still need to get a shop in Vancouver to do it for me.

By the way, how do you think about CA18DET? Cuz I don't need more than 250 whp anyway.

Thanks again, man. Oh, yeah, I'm in edmonton. I think you're in edmonton too, eh?

RS13 10-03-2003 09:47 PM

yea i'm in edmonton

The CA18DET it not as cheap as you think. No 240 exhaust bolts up to it but a stock t25 turbo from a SR will give you alot of HP with minimal lag. you can easily get up to 250 with a CA and it revs like a honda:confused: it only has 1.8 litres but bolts right into a 240 with no mods. When you do you swap you will need a p/s resivoir froma 91 and probably p/s lines too. this adds about 500 to the cost

PS where did you get insurance from. i've been lookin and i'm probly gonna pay about 4200 a year (17 with no accidents and tickets:anger2: ) from Melchex Monex.

Hey im new here but im also from vancouver. I just bought a 91 super hicas 240 and im planning on an sr20 swap too. first off sr20's are perfectly legal in canada from s13 through s15. second of all in vancouver a very trustworthy place is MF Technologies. Just google it their website is something along the lines of mfcorp.com. They are actually located just a few minutes away from me and i visit quite frequently. They have a couple 240s go in and out every day and charge roughly 4500CDN for an s13 sr20det swap. hope that helps.
