D1GP: U.S.A. vs Japan 2005

It's coming December 16-17th @ Irwindale - U.S. vs. Japan special event... and it's going to be a "Night Drift" session this time, so it should be a lot of fun (especially now that it's not at California Speedway like the last event)

keioffice 10-05-2005 01:36 PM

wish i could go, but i live in mn

naptime 10-06-2005 09:43 PM

Hopefully I can go to this one. I missed last years event because I had to work.

Sirikool 10-06-2005 09:52 PM

Irwindale>CA speedway.
Night drift you say? so does that mean we don't have to get up early in the morning on a weekend for parking?

onevia 10-06-2005 11:05 PM

I'm so there

DARKEST_HOUR 10-07-2005 04:56 PM

yea seriously...

how far is Irwindale from say... LAX? any motels around it? How much are tickets for the event? I've been meaning to get out to Cali to see friends anyway, now about those plane tickets...

far.

Actually you're better off flying into Ontario airport (Ontario CA, not Canada LOL) because from the airport...

...wait NM that's California Speedway.

Then again Ontario Airport is still closer to Irwindale Speedway (I'd guesstimate 30-35 minute drive along the 10fwy)... LAX is a good hour away if you're lucky and there's no traffic... which only happens at like 3-4am on a holiday during a rainstorm in August.

I think that gives you an idea LOL

Biggamehit 10-07-2005 08:08 PM

yea i mean there are some good drifter here, and many small events. but the drift scene is going nuts on the west coast. It doesnt surprise me becuase the import scene ( started) period is big over there. I guessing because its closer to japan

CowboyTurbo 10-07-2005 08:35 PM

they get better weather = better roads too. I have no idea how the hell any of the NYC tuners drive around with full body kits slammed like nobody's business. btw thanx for the info l2aine

Biggamehit 10-07-2005 09:35 PM

very tru. the road in baltimore sucks also, i have to go out to the counties.

Make sure you bring one this time, since it's in December and it gets pretty cold at night (compared to the evenings of D1 Round 1 in March)

naptime 10-08-2005 10:53 AM

Yeah it caught me by surprise the time I went to the first D1 event at Irwindale. I'm from NorCal and didn't know about Socal weather. Sitting in the stands for the evening round, the wind picked up and it got cold fast. It turned from hella sunny to chilling cold. Good thing I had a long sleeve shirt in my bag. We got a hotel like 20min from irwindale cuz the nearby hotels were booked. That LA traffic is no joke man lol. Weekend traffic is bearable compared to weekdays, though. If you're going to fly out here to cali, try to fly out on a wednesday. It's the cheapest day of the week. Try jetblue or southwest for cheaper fares

GO N.O.B.

RuizXIII 10-10-2005 05:17 AM

Dammit, East Coast is so bad compared to Cali......you guys are so lucky :tear:

Please takes pix/videos, whoever goes to this event!!!

CowboyTurbo 10-10-2005 05:33 AM

I was watching this Car and Driver TV show this past weekend, and somebody got Nob to drive one of the Evo's that they were comparing... he'd never driven it before prior to that day, but he still finished the course 3 seconds ahead of the next guy, lol.

He's familiar with the Evo; he drove the HKS TRB II full-carbon fiber EVO at Tsukuba and broke many records with it:thumb:

naptime 10-10-2005 12:51 PM

even if he didn't know the evo, he would still kick ass cuz of his familiarity with road courses. He does drive in the JGTC afterall
I'm a Kazama fan myself, but I would like to see the RWD Suby in action though

no, I meant that SPECIFIC Evo~ the one that was in the Car and Driver comparison... in the interview after his laps around the course, he says he would've liked to set up the car differently (to his preferences I gather), but was satisfied with the overall result. :thumb:

Dude - that's irrelevent if it's not 'A SPECIFIC EVO', because think about it - if he's familiar with a full carbon, reecord setting full-race EVO, it's shouldn't take him but a minute or two to familiarize himself with another EVO (doesn't matter which specific EVO)... :bigok:

Rogue10_6 10-11-2005 12:31 AM

I'm driving in from the O.C., it's really not that far, I was there not too long ago for Formula D, and traffic wasn't so bad.... That was pretty awesome in itself, even came out on G4's Formula D show, so that was cool.... Can't wait for D1, though....

Yea.. i Guess i never thought about it that way....

Rogue10_6 10-14-2005 02:24 AM

Yea, smog laws are so arbitrary.... They eff with us about the cars, and those damn big rig trucks and older-than-old buses spew out so much crap.... That's the only reason the RB engines are not legal, cuz of all that legal blah-blah-blah.....

naptime 10-14-2005 10:33 AM

^^I was about to make a reply on your post, but it would make it run off topic of this thread hehehe
