Stig drifting the Miata!!! Kinda Sucky Actually!

Yeah, she needs work and so do I! As soon as I get my daily driver, I'll be submitting her to my sponsors and letting them do everything she needs which includes clutch, suspension, larger brakes and a secret weapon under the hood in the shape of a snail shell!!! LOL!

is that an open? Doesnt seem like the torsin diff miatas have.

USMCDrifter 02-28-2008 02:19 PM

Yeah, it's the torsen from a 1995, in good condition, it's the driver that's having the problems, remember I used to race and drift BMWs, so this is a whole new beast for me, I don't think I've ever owned a car with this little horsepower and that little size.

Revs up . . .keep em there, don't lift until the apex . . .immediately after the apex . . .get back on it hard and fast!

That's what my friend who drifts Miatas told me . . .it seems to work in parking lots and around curves/turns, lets see how it does on the track...

ok so im a little wasted but that was funny as hell!!!!!:)

u shot that first set of cones like 30 feet

and at about 1min 42 sec were the miata goes acrossed the screen...it looks like a geo metro convertible :) LOL

but still, great respect for the drifting i cant do. i suck at drifting BAD

Actually, it was dynamic, lift off and mild clutch kicking also known as clutch feathering . . .

I'm not so good with the Miata but I LOVE the challenge, it's so vastly different from drifting a torquey and heavy BMW that it's almost a stark contrast!

I've been practicing here and there, the next event . . .just you wait and see ^_^!

Thanks for the comments guys!

I just enjoyed hearing you talk in the last few seconds.
And how you refer to yourself as "Stig" on a daily basis, thats sweet!

...oh and Tripp would participate in track events/race lif he didn't own a 240sx and live in Akron.

yarou 02-28-2008 08:58 PM

get that torsen outta there, get a cheap open and weld it or get the fc clutch type diff

USMCDrifter 02-28-2008 09:02 PM

the torsen is actually better than welding, it's very durable and the torque sensing feature means that when I up the power significantly, she'll lock harder . . . .

-Stig

MS!3 02-28-2008 09:18 PM

whats harder than a solid weld tho?

Drifting with a torsen isn't too hot, it transfers power to the outer wheel during a turn which attempts to prevent wheel spin and keep you on track. The TBR is 3:1, so in many cases when your outer wheel gets more power for traction, it'll be spinning harder than the inside wheel. I would think that this has a tendency to feel inconsistent for many different speed turns when trying to slide, torsen's are much better for grip since you don't want wheel slip. I also don't understand how the torsen would lock harder than a welded, since it's always locked. lol
