Anyone done a home made short shifter?

Basicly what I am sayin gis cutting the bar a few inches, then either threding the bar for the knob to fit, rubber cementing the knob on or just buying a screw on one. But has anyone done this?

it's not about how tall the shifter is so much as how you change the pivot point to shorten the throws
