help! smoke from tranny..?

Ok so my car has been running brilliant but I just did a 3 hour trip (1 1/2 each direction) and just as I was pulling into my driveway I saw smoke coming from my shifter. I had been smelling something odd for about 30 minutes. im *assuming* that oil has leaked from my front mail seal or something and is getting on my super hot exhaust. My mechanic said I have a very slow/small leak.. I think I just need to clean off the oil that has gathered there over a long period of time.. anyways to help seal the leak ?

if its your rear main seal then you need to replace it, if its leaking from somewhere else than tell us where..

what would cause smoke to come from the shifter boot? what could be leaking and what could make it smoke? oil on exhaust is my guess but can the tranny get hot enuf? ill have to check tommorow.

its that rear seal which is easy to replace its splashing onto the drive shaft and its flying onto the exhaust.I have the same problem in just to lazy to fix it lol plus in doin a sr20det swap soon
