Lsd

the '91 super HICAS has an lsd, right? is it a 1 or 1.5 or 2 way? would it be worth it to upgrade to an aftermarket one such as a kaaz lsd (www.digitalracer.com)? if i do upgrade, would i be better off with a 1.5 way or a 2 way?

if you want to drift and are a beginner, then they say a 1.5 is better. I don't know what the HICAS one was.

you need the shafts too b/c the american 240 has a different bolt pattern than the canadian 240.

i don't want to drift, i want to autoX. which lsd would be best or should i just leave the stock one in?

it would be better if you changed your LSD to after market. the stock one is a little weak. if you do get yourself a new lsd make sure its 1.5 way because it will help you hit the corners a lot better than a 2way. the 2 way will make you understeer alittle bit. trust me i have a 2 way and i drift, i like to auto-x sometimes just to collect the cones call me the cone collecter! well yeah 2 way is not good if you are auto-xing.

What companies offer gear diffs? I heard they are better maintenance wise than disc style lsds.

Did you have to get any additional parts or was this a bolt on affair?

since i had an open diff i had to get my left and right side shaft (axle flanges). which were an extra 150 each. but its well worth my money.

The only companies with gear types I've seen are Quaife, Phantom Grip and Nismo. It's true the gear types are better cause you don't have to drive in a figure 8 for 30 min to break them in and they don't need to be rebuilt periodically like the disc types.
