LSD for dummies needed

When it comes to the LSD, I'm not gonna lie, I know little. I know there are diffrent types such as a 1.5, 2, viscus, etc. I would like to know the diffrences between them, is there any material out there that I can read up on to learn more?

I have an s14 w/o LSD, what would ya'll suggest be the best fitment for the 240? I heard the Infinity J30, non turbo 300 and LSD from SE 240, which would be the best?

Last question, is it hard to put in?

1 way locks only on acceleration. 1.5 way locks on acceleration and partial deceleration. 2 way is both.

the 240 and other nissan car's vlsd uses a silicone fluid (i think) and its a 1.5 way.

the vlsd is a good upgrade to the open diff. or if you got the money, theres nismo, cusco, and kazz that make different lsds. the lsd from the j30, na300zx, and 240 are almost the same. just the output shafts and the diff cover are different between some models. just search around for more info.

note: pretty sure my info is correct. just search around look. howstuffworks.com got a good page on diffs too. check it out.

Thanks for the info, the last question is just, is it hard to put in? I know I should search, but I have a 56k modem and only a few minutes. Which vlsd is better, the nonturbo, j30, or 240?
Thanks for the help

Wow, I think I just taught myself something! No, I just happened to stumble onto a great web site. Anyone having my questions should go to http://www.ka24development.com/vlsd.html

This site seems to be pretty good at answering my questions maybe it can help someone else in the future

For the few who might care, I decided on a 95 J30 for $300. I'll post any problems, likes and or dislikes about the swap real soon

i have a spare s13 vlsd internals sitting on the side. i havent found anything about someone doin this kind of swap with just the internals.

will it bolt into and fit in a 240 fastback w/o vlsd pumpkin? or do you need to buy lsd axels?

Agreed - I'd rather save the $250 I'd spend on a VLSD and go full clutch type myself

no super genious when it comes to the rear end, of a car that is, but I drained the oil out of the j30 vlsd and added 80-90w gear oil and this stuff from NAPA called trans x. This stuff is supposed to be used on lsd's to take out the clunkin and chattering sound from the rear end and it also suggest using synthetic oil.
