manual conversion

well wherever I look, 240's around here for sale are all auto, except for the occasional pos thats at those shady dealers.

anyways, theres a 240 up the road from me thats a 91 fastback, but its auto. thing is, i dont want auto, all the cars my family has are auto, i want manual

anyways, i have been hearing about people doing manual conversions from an automatic.

so heres the question, how much does it cost, or is it even worth it?

thanks a lot
nate

depends on how much you pay for the parts, do a search on these forums and see what you find

im in the process of doing that myself. i ahve a 98 240, and im goin with an sr20 manula trans. i heard its not that hard to do but u do have to find to parts at a good price. i bought a lot of my stuff www.car-part.com good prices and cool people. the most important things you need are.

pedal set
manual drive shaft(make sure you wether the car has ABS or not...it makes a difference)
shift boot and shift bezel
manual ecu
i think thats about it, if theres anymore ill let you know.

Except for the shift boot, bezel and ECU.
I bought all this as a set from an EBay auction. It's sitting in my basement right now. Is there anyway to tell if my driveshaft is from an ABS model or not. I'm guessing it's not since it was probably not a common option on S13's which is what this set is from.

the only way to tell is if it has a vin number on it, you could then use a vin decoder to tell(which i have and belive has been posted on this site before). or you can find out from the actual car that it came from and see if it had abs or not

Is that a price for parts and labor? Or just Labor? I am in the same process of converting to a 5spd and sourced most of the parts but now looking for a local shop to do the install. They quoted me $800 just for labor. Now is this what to expect from most shops?

screw the shop... just do it your self. its not that hard. once you pull all the old parts you just replace them with the manual parts. yes you might need a lift to do it but still. if you can get/use the appropriate lift or stands then you are set

I have another question? I am currently getting my parts from a guy who is selling his old KA24DE and tranny still bolted together. Could I use the old Pilot Bearing from this or should I go ahead and purchase a new one?
