Unhappy Oil in the shifter assembly

I just bought my 95 se like four months ago and the tranny make a winding noise but noise goes away when I press the clutch pedal in and shifing to gears fell a bit stiff then smooth. When I changed the stock shifter to shorter thow one I notice that there was like tranny fluid or oil in the shifter assembly. Any info from you all would help, Thanks

There should be gear oil in there. .. you might wanna try changing it if the current oil looks like chocolate

Cool

Thinks for the positive replies guys, so I know the winding noise is the throw out bearing not good no more but should I change the tranny fluid now without replacing the clutch and throw out bearing or should I wait till I change the clutch out for a new set. I don't have the dollar to do a clutch replacement till mabe a few months thats why I like to know what some of you guys think.

I wish I was a millionaire so I would'nt have questions like this

you can change tranny flud without dropping the transmission... logically, it also makes sense to change fluid if you do a clutch job since you would have the tranny off the car in the first place

Wink

Okay I will see if I have time to change the fluid this weekend since the fluid from under the shifter assembly panel in the tranny is kinda dark brown and dirty. The gasket under the shifter panel with the six screws to the tranny did tear but when I installed the short shifter I just put it back in place nicely and I don't think it should be a big deal if I tight the panel up right or is it a problem, let me if anyone believes it's a no no. Hope the fluid change will help shift smoother too or else it means my tranny gears are bad too.

raine, since i can find you online nowadays, i have a question for you. I have my 240, and when i idle, the car sounds like theres a grinding noise coming from somewhere. When i press the clutch, it goes away. I know its something in the tranny, and its done that since the day i bought it. But i havent driven it more then 200 miles since i did buy it.,.. what do you think it could be?

hmm... of the top of my head, my first guess might be t/o bearing... or a chewed up pilot bushing... buy don't listen to me LOL
