s15 helical lsd vs viscious lsd
whats the difference between both and which one would be easier to install. if i wanted teh s15 helical what would i need to install it vs the vlsd. which one is better
HLSD-VLSD
Well The Difference is in this Diagram from the FSM. 17-20 is the difference between the VLSD and the HLSD the HLSD has helical type gears inside being driven by the pinion(and Ring gear). The only problem with the Helical style gears is the outward force they execert will doing work other than that they are technically stronger given they have more surface area of contact. The side gears have a tendancy for more backlash after long terms of use.
The R200H HLSD will slide right into a R200 Case but must be shimed properly. I had one in my S13 for a while.
If I were you I would get an aftermarket diff like Kaaz, or Nismo the stock V and HLSD's are good for a while but will break down and fail. I have only 450hp to the wheels and have had my NISMO 2way the whole time. If you are strapped for cash and low horse power a VLSD will work just fine.
