A/T problems

Ok so my auto tranny has no reverse or overdrive and its pissin me off. I call a place that make rebuild kits and i ask him a few ?s. He says it could be an electronic problem with the tranny. If not then some of the clutches are out. Does anyone know how i can figure this out. Also how hard would a tranny rebuild be??? The thing is ive been looking for a new tranny for so long but no one has one in my area... and the only reason im not doing the 5 speed swap is cuz im doin a full engine swap next summer.

so no reveres means no revers at all, right? also, did this just happen all of a sudden or has it become worse over time?

im not sure i got it this way, the last owner is a bastard. ill shift it and it wont even make any sounds or anything it just revs the engine like its another neutral.

in that case you should inspect the linkage to make sure it's not broken. if that checks out, make sure the transmissions fluid is filled to the proper level, although this is more of a desperation move becuase it might be shoot. but i have seen a seemingly busted transmission work great after the filter and fluid were changed so it's still worth looking into.

the first thing i checked was the fluid, and it was good. what do you mean linkage?? like the shifter itself???

yes the shifter. it is connected by a pin which if hit very hard can break loose.. its very rare but a possibility. He is not talking about shift linkage as in a Honda civic.
