trouble getting into gear in morning
alrighty in the mornings lately it's getting harder and harder to get my car to get in gear. for the past 2-3 days i've had to start her out in 2nd because i feel as if i'm going to break the shifter if i try to get it in 1st. even getting it into 2nd is a challenge. after about 4-5 minutes of driving it's like she starts getting easier to shift. i'm in virginia and it's one of the warmest winters ever mornings are about 30-40 so i don't think it's about the cold. she has a brand new master and slave cylinder. it was proberly bled and has plenty of fluid. my tranny has 220k miles on it. thanks in advance for any help.

thats kinda common sense there.
change the tranny fluid. dont use synthetic. Think about it, its like sayin my engine has 500,000 miles on it and leaks oil what do i do. Well you rebuild or swap. Your tranny is tired. Maybe you should think about replaceing it soon. |
would it be best to replace or to rebuild?
I would think replace (i.e. a brand new ) would be the best, but a rebuild from a reputable place should be fine.
how do you replace the tranny fluid?
there's a plug at the bottom of the tranny, it's square shaped. Take a socket wrench minus the socket and unscrew the plug to drain the tranny. I'm not sure where the plug to refill the fluid is, but I just removed the shifter and poured it in from there when I was replacing my clutch.
haha, fill is on the side, same type of plug, get the car level and you'll know its full when it starts coming out the side fill hole
remove the fill plug first then remove the drain plug
about how much fluid does she take? i don't have the owners manual. i know i'm supposed to use mil-4 right.
