My Uncle welded this. What do you guys think? Do you think it will hold? He Didn't have any argon gas. He also welded a steel rod on both sides.

jramosthe1st! Sep 12, 2009 09:27 PM

i don't.

the welds look bad, real bad. i should know considering that's what my welds looked like when i started welding.

That doesnt look that good man. you need a high powered welder and you need to melt those gears together. Also you need to get all those welding beads out of there so they dont get jammed in the yoke and chip the gear.

Nickmerrone Sep 12, 2009 09:42 PM

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek.

USMCDrifter Sep 12, 2009 09:50 PM

Well, got good news and bad news . . .

The Bad News Is:

Those welds are atrocious . . .

The Good news . . .

You can get 240sx diffs for CHEAP!

Biggamehit Sep 12, 2009 11:14 PM

yea the welds are inconsistent. and im not sure if he did both sides fully.

240smoke Sep 13, 2009 08:26 AM

just go to your local welding shop. it costs me $50 to get an amazing quality weld where they actually melt the gears together. If you run that in your car, your just gonna have problems.

All of that . . .

EDIT:

Dude you're in TEXAS?!?! The drift scene out there is HUGE as is the tuner market. I have a few friends out there and a TON of drifting buddies. You should just get with the local drift scene and see if:

1. Any of them can get you hooked up or have a spare welded diff.

2. Any local shops can clean that up and/or get you setup with another diff, because that one is going to (as Scott already said) cause you issues.

:D

well.. that one is clean and looks to be very solid welds.. but if you are going to weld it.. fill the whole thing in man. Connect all the teeth.

im not trying to play who has the best welded diff lol... but my first one i did was ****ty dude to low amp welder.

this is my second one.. Completed filled in on both sides with the teeth pretty joined all the way around.. Zero issues with many comps and daily driving.

OH wait . . . .that's not a welded . . . .I don't get why more people don't just get a gear type LSD. They work just as well, and actually allow for normal driving . . .

Well . . .granted that you don't have 300ft lbs of torque pushing through your wheels.
