whistling coming from rear

whats up, just got my second 240 and couldn't be happier. it's a 92 hatch with stock KA and tranny. heres the deal, it runs really strong up until mid range rpms (will get exact rpm when i have time) where it seems to lose power (nothing too bad just noticable). there is a really loud annoying whistle coming from what sounds like either the drive shaft rubbing something or my rear diff. my roomate has a 90 240 hatch sr20det and he said it sounds like the tranny whinning. got the rear diff and tranny drained and relubed today and it's still whisling. and still grinding going into second pretty bad. im going to bleed the clutch today and see if that helps the grinding going into second, the guy i bought it from replaced the master cylinder and i don't think he bled the clutch thouroughly enough. anyone had this whisling before or have any ideas as to what it is? it only whistles when the clutch is out and im on the gas, through all gears (worst in 4 and 5). when i let off the gas to a coast or just engage the clutch the whisling goes away? sounds like a tranny to me just wondering if anyone has any alternative ideas.

Have you checked your break pads? IDK if they have screech pads or even if that is the sound you are hearing. Just a thought...

i got the tranny and rear diff flushed and filled back up. the gear oil in the diff looked absolutely horrible. just found out through a friend of the guy i bought the car from that the stock diff is welded and i'm pretty sure they did a poor job. as for the mid range loss, it isn't the typical s13 weak mid range, it actually stutters after shifting everyonce in a while, esspecially when the accelerator is steady. (thought it may be the fuel pump but have since exhausted the possiblilty) i've run down all the options and come to the conclusion that it's the poorly welded spider gears so i'm getting an oem rear diff and getting it welded properly to hopefully aleiviate the whistling. it's got a good start as a drifter just need to fix some minor things. i'll get some pics up as soon as i can and let you guys check it out. thanks for the help and i'll talk to you guys later. :thumb:
