350 Wheel HP??

I am going to get a RB25DET into a 1990 240sx. I want to know the cheapest and most reliable way to get 350hp to the wheels. This is the first time I have posted on this forum and I already used the search button!!!

uhhhh... you could try .... umm.... i'd probably suggest straight up changing the stock turbo if you want more than 350hp... but you could try wrapping your exhaust pipe(s) and headers ... i hear it'll give you some boost and changing the air filter i suppose...

:werd: appreciate the info, i wish others would give some imput, but i think that changing the turbo would be an expensive way to achieve my hp goal.

First things first. horsepower increase = reliability decrease

Depending if your any good with any type of mechanics, while you got the motor out, port and polish always does something. Very cheap if you do it yourself, just make sure that the ports are all the same size. Then intake and exhaust. Gut the cat or straight pipe. Fuel will help some, will help more with a FMS. Some cams will do something. It all depends on how much you want to spend.

Port/Polish = $20 (if you have a dremel)
Intake = $40
Exhaust = $150
FMS = $400 (piggyback or re-programmed ECU)
Injectors = $150 (Ebay)
Camshaft = $400 - $1000 (depends on what you want)

It is possible, ONLY if you increase the boost and with out any internal work, it will hurt the motor, as long as you don't run full boost all the time, only when you pull up next to a Civic and really want to stomp it. Bwaaahahahaha

I am also doing the RB25DET swap in my S13, and my friend has had plenty of experience with his RB26DETT. It's not hard at all to make 350HP to the wheels with a Inline 6 bullet proof engine. If your turbo is in good shape ( No shaft play) then you can crank the boost up. I would also get a bigger exhaust (such as the Apex'i GTspec 3.74) and a 3inch down pipe to open up the air flow. You will also want a bigger intercooler and radiator for cooling. An LSD ( if you know Night then he ran a 15.2 without the LSD and once he got the GTR 4.11 LSD gears then he ran a 12.6) If you can afford a new turbo then I would upgrade to a bigger one then the stock one.:naughty:

Look around for Night...i think hes the RB guru rite now. Last i heard hes running 12' with a somewhat stock RB25

you could put a Chevy 350 small block in your car and have about 100hp extra to spare??? :idea:

nah, i like smaller displacement, but if i liked domestic stuff i would do that........maybe:dunno:

Keep Nissan, Nissan. Chevy engines are made for Chevys. Not just this, but Nissan engines are more reliable than built 8-cylinder beasts. Argue with me all you want on that, but Nissan engines run smoother and last longer when built to high hp levels correctly. They also have higher redlines for good racing.

350Hp RB25 =

Intake, Downpipe, Exhaust, Iridium plugs, Fuel Pump, and about 12 psi. Really easy to do.

Yes, I did hit a mid 12 with the items listed above. It's sweet to be able to go that fast with an engine that revs so smoothly.

I would have to agree with Night, keep it nissan. but with the costs for the upgraded HP it will probably be in the $1500 range. :ugh: That is for Intake, Down Pipe, Exhaust ( full cat back like the GTspec 3.74), L.S.D. ( GTR 4.11), spark plugs, fuel pump, and a clutch ( ACT 300zx non-Turbo).

Basically all new head work.....

Then.....!!!!!!

If i were you i would go out and spend a pretty penny on a Turbo

Personally.....im gonna save up for the HKS T51R ball Bearing turbo!!!!!

then crank the boost up.....

I think that list is a little too much for 350HP, I mean don't get me wrong that would be nice. We are talking about the RB though, these motors are already built from the factory. There is an RB25DET in Japan that is in the 500HP range on stock internals. I wouldn't worry to much on the internals yet. I think your main worry is going to be traction. My friend opened up his RB26DETT ( it has around 50k on it) and the cylinders on that thing were nice, it looked like it just came out of the factory.
