best exhaust for ?

hey i was looking into full catback exhaust systems and i was thinking that when i go to do my rb20 swap that i may just use a downpipe and no actuall catback exhaust what so ever

do u think i could see any hp gains out of this compared to a cat exhaust because this way i was thinking was there would be no to hardly any restriction, and i dont care if its loud and so on inspection tickets etc etc i just want the most power out of it

thanks
brent

ive never seen a person just use a downpipe, no exahust at all. I would think that its better to have a exahust cus when u see races and evrything, they have a exahust

every race car you'll find has some sort of exhaust on it.

from the sounds of it you really want to have minimal backpressure... my suggestion to you would be to run a DP then from the DP run strait pipes with NO muffler at the end. that'll be legal and also probably give you what you want for performance. it won't be quiet at all so i'm gonna warn you about it now.

so ur saying run a straight pipe all the way through to the rear bumper or just like stop the pipe half way down to the rear of the car and just have a pipe no canaster correct? when u look at the car from the rear would u be able to see an exhaust at all coming out of the back or no ?

what i'm saying is do the same thing as all the demestic guy and run piping from your downpipe to the back of the car where the muffler would be. just DON'T put a muffler on.

ya, you can put a tip on it though to make it look better, like a rectangle tip or something.

well the reason i was wondering about just the down pipe is because what is the purpose of getting those cut offs that u can buy they open the exhaust up right after the down pipe thats why i was wondering if i could just use a down pipe and i dunno if i wanna do straights because i think it would look ****ty as hell coming out of the back....well maybe not i dunno though

umm the downpipe is the part coming from the manifold to teh CAT, i've never heard of ANYONE cutting out the downpipe cuz thats just not neccecary. you must be talking about a "testpipe". that a piece that replaces your catalitic converter.
