Can it be done?

Can I buy a 240sx and drop in a SR20DET run in the low 13's high 12's and still have enough left over for some slight cosmetics like respray, rims, bodykit all with only about $6000?

oooh. I know the right people... =D My uncle will paint the car for jut the price of buying the paint, given it'll take him a while for it's not his priority. So that'll save me hundreds with the paint. My friend rebuild's motors and drops them in, and he'll only charge me $800 for a drop or a rebuild. Cosmetics can be taken care for very cheap prices. Umm... There's really not much else. I have to keep my budget under $6000, and judging from using all my contacts and people I know I think I might be barely barely just hitting the $5500 mark. But then again, I'm pricing myself at the highest cost possible as to give myself a couple hundred to buffer myself with.

Oh and because you never asked before you spent the money

$800 just to drop it in? Why don't you do it yourself? Lets see this $6000 budget.

Where are you located. I'm looking for someone to rebuild my KA with some forged parts. How good is he? My whole turbo setup is custom and cost an s-load..everything was custom fabbed. Hit me up on AIM.

I do all my own work too. I bought my 240 for $400 w/ a blown motor and put an RB20 in it. I guess I've only spent about $6k now that I add it up, but I should just now be hitting mid-low 13s... maybe high 12s. That's including all the tools I've broken or had to buy. My 240 looks stock on the outside. I painted it myself. I got a lot of parts for working on other peoples cars like my spearco FMIC and getting it dyno-tuned. So I got "hookups" too, and I don't see how it could be done w/ that budget unless you're sport compact car two years ago

I just got done doing my RB20 240, I should be somewhere between a low 13, to mid 12 easily. It's all about who you know. YOu know the right people you'll find stuff for extremely cheap. Or get lucky with the front clip like I did. I got my Blitz ECU, and intake with the clip. I paid under 2K for my whole swap. my car was only 3K. I just bought a T3 turbo and 450cc injectors for about 420, that'll put me in the 12's if I can hook up. But the SR will be more difficult to do than the RB, thats my opinion.
