Having Second thoughts and third thoughts already
ok i got my AUTO 240sx se s14.... i was planning to do the rb25det swap when i had 5 grand.... now that i think about it .... 5 grand for 250 hp plus 6500 for the car it self sound like a rip off to me... i want to sell it... but i love it to much so i have to do a swap and no i dont want a turboed KA automatic. even tho the engine has only 82.3 k on it.... rb25det swap is too expensive.... a front clip is atleast 3200 plus custom driveshaft, tranny mounts, and engine mounts, downpipe, and other shiznitz.... rb20det sounds just as good as the rb25 even though 205 or 210 hp.... it still has 6 cyl unlike the sr20det..... and sr20dets are way too comon now a days... so i wanna be unique and say that i have a skyline engine.... i dont have 5 grand or 6 grand to dish out like that... so i m thinking rb20det becuase i could get a clip for like 2000 (correct me if i am wrong) but then the rb20det clips are old and i dont want one with like 100k miles on it.... that would be very bad.... and are there custom driveshaft installs and engine mounts involved on this... will i be able to get where the rb25det is stock with very minimal mods... and what figures am i looking at stock in the 1/4 mile.... 13s stock ... please say yes.... i have so many questions... i read the FAQ on RBs... everyone says they are gonna do that swap and keep us updated but only 1 outta 10 people actually do that.... i need some figures ... and what else.... how much will the rb20det swap run me... lets say i get someone to do it for me for 500 dollars... and whats a good place to buy the clip ... or should i stick with my rb25 plan that i will never get to... help!
The RB20 is about the best bang for the buck right now. I'm going to be putting one in my 89 coupe, and yes I will post the process and show every step. Most RB clips will be around 100,000km, or about 62,000 miles. This isn't bad they will have lots of life left if they were properly cared for. My clip I will be using has 96,000km on it. I'll be replacing the timing belt, water pump, clutch, thermostat, and simply dropping the engine in. They did make the R32 and other cars with the RB20 thru 1994, so they aren't that old. Not any older than any of the Redtop Sr20DET's that are so popular. The motor is 215 stock, I think with a intake, 3" downpipe and exhaust, and FMIC or slight boost increase you will see 250HP. Also I'm not that knowledgable on the S14's but I think your stock driveshaft will work in the RB20's tranny because it's the same trans as the SR. I went with the RB for the same reason you did, just having something different than everyone else, and the deep sound of a hi-po 6 cyl is just too cool.
with those mods....your probably going to get 250 crank...215 wheel hp....my 2k2 maxima puts 225 with and intake...its rated at 255...the intake made almost 10hp to the wheels...yay for me...im lookin at the rb25det....im also having 2nd thoughts...a yr ago...night was the only one i knew that had the RB in his car...now look~....
your not paying 5k for JUST 250hp....ur paying for a motor that can easily be 350+hp....ur paying for the potential it has.....besides...to me...the rb is more streetable than the SR....more useful torque....im not going to be pushing my car past 3k everytime i drive~....

No a year ago Night wasnt the only one.....there were alot others before him AND since him.
Compare the RB25DET full clip($3200) to say an Intgegra Type R engine swap(250 vs. 195) and see how economical it is....
The RB25 is a very good, strong, reliable motor and I wouldnt recommend anything else.

abuot the stock driveshaft thing... i have a n auto... so i think if i were to get my auto swapped for a 5spd i would have to change driveshafts so i m guessing i ll have to do the same for the swap since i will be going from auto ka24 to manual rb20 most likely... and as far as potential goes... i m want 400 hp or 450hp thats if i get to it...
hopefully 400 on stock internals
anymore input....??
