How about a 3.5 and the 6 speed 240sx

What if you could put in a 3.5 and the 6 speed tranny from a wrecked 350z. Would be expensive because a wrecked 350z are still not cheap. You would need everything from the 350z to make it even work. (wiring) I have driven 4 350z's. They are by for a vary fun car to drive. These cars are pretty fast and can go around a corner vary well. With some work it could fit in. And starting at 287 hp with plenty of potiential. That 3.5 is a vary smouth running engine. So what is everyone elses opion.
It's only a idea, I don't have the money to do this myself. If I could get all the parts, I would try it.

You could try...but its a lot of work...plus Nissan did so much to sqeeze that power out of the engine and make it light, they actually weakened it consiterably. Have you heard of those 350z guys buying Greddy TT kits and throwing rods and what not? It just cant handle the power as well as others without a rebuild...Try considering a Vg TT swap instead. Convert it to single turbo and your good. Plenty of power potential there without a rebuild...

Wow didn't know that

wikd240 Jul 20, 2005 02:29 AM

the vq like any other motor has its weak links... if you add a tt set up and run 13 psi of boost you are surly going to toss a rod... under normal boost 7 to 8 psi it runs all day long and makes good horsepower...

as for the swap... it could be done... the actual size of the motor is not that much larger than the vg motor... the vg fits into the 240 with room to spare so should the cq motor... the body wiring would be the nightmare... the engine harness will go in and replace everything that is stock on the 240 but the wiring to get things like temp tach and speedo would be the hard part... but then again there are ways to make that part easier... get a full dash of aftermarket gagues and use the factory sensors to run them... solves the gague problems...

it would be an original swap... but for the money spent you could do an rb swap...

No need to convert. Just get a vg30DET off a nissan leopard and youre good.

^ no more talking from you okay.

VQ is weak. I love the sound of there exhaust but, the internals are not made for boost or anything other than what they have.

just go RB its a way better design.

My point exactly...

What is a Nissan Leopard? Does the duel turbo fit? The vq motor are becoming vary popular and alot of stronger parts are available for that motor. But it seems to be more practicle to go with the vg, but it would be unique. And hella cool at shows
:D Thanks for the replies.

No TT does NOT fit...I thought we addressed that already?

Damn car had some badass engines...the v8 is VH45DE I believe...

PsYkHoTiC Jul 24, 2005 04:00 AM

Go with a VK45 TT like in the Top Secret Skyline "GTR" theyre making like 700ps! The VQ is pretty sucky for modding but throw on a Vortec and it's a fun car! (G35)

Sorry fast1one I must have missed that one. Thanks for all the info. I guess there are alot of better swaps out there. I'm a die hard Nissan fan. Everybody else are chevy fans. They all say put in a chevy v8. I want to beat all the chevys around here. Almost all have good mods and are vary fast. Everything from exaust to intakes and cams. You know all the goodies. Anyway I won't be doing any swaping yet until I run a couple of years of racing in stock legue. Want to learn the car first, but gives me a few to look for the best swap :D Vary nice info.

Levi SPL S14 Jul 24, 2005 01:28 PM

^ So I take it your car is still KA and all you have are bolt ons.
Well bolt on to KA's suck make no power.

Beat the chevy's well that will never happen if your drag racing, which is what im sure what you mean.

Just have fun with your car. You dont need to beat anyone.
