LS1 in s13 hatch

ok i just got a s13 hatch about a week ago and i want to put in a ls1 or sr20det. i would like to know what i would have to do to put either one in and about what it would cost. which do u think i should go with. any good places to find engines aswell.

solospeed 06-08-2007 01:58 PM

SR20 drops right in $3K fun on the street w/ mods
ls1 need custom everything $7k run 11s all day

satm83 06-08-2007 08:13 PM

what would i have to do for the ls1 what customs? really 7thousand??the engine is like 2000

jramosthe1st! 06-08-2007 08:54 PM

7k seems kinda low, i've seen more like 10k to 12k depending on how much of the work you do yourself. that's not to say it can't be done 7k or less. i've just seen different prices.

satm83 06-09-2007 12:25 AM

why is it so much if the 240 is rwd??

PXRacing 06-09-2007 12:48 AM

alot depends on motorset costs, how much fabbing you can do yourself. I did it for about $6500. 4K was the motor. sometimes you can get lucky and someone doesn't know what they have and sell the motorset for cheaper. just depends. or you can go for an older motor, like from a 98 or 99. i opted for the 01 because that was one first year they came with the ls6 intake mani and didn't have egr. another way to save money is making your own mounting kit.

if you spend 10-12K on this swap and did all the work yourself, you should be shot. there's a company that will do the whole swap for you to include the motor for 10K.

damn i didnt know it would be that much...ok so how hard is the rb25det swap? and out of all the swaps what would u do?sr20det,ls1,or sr20det? im not thring to spend all that much. but want the power

PXRacing 06-09-2007 05:01 AM

i've had the ka-t, sr20, and now the ls1. i'm enjoying the ls1 the most. the torque is great. if you go rb25, expect to pay the same if not more.

solospeed 06-09-2007 05:15 AM

rb25 will be about $6-7k too. Cost effectively speaking sr20 is your best bet. Drops right in, not much custom work so if u find the motor for cheap the labor won't be much. I've had people offer me to do it for $3k out the door (automatic tho). You won't be "fast" but quicker than stock and have potential to add more power by spending more money at a later time on upgrades i.e. turbo etc

ryguy 06-09-2007 08:12 AM

Are you doing all the work yourself? If you are KA-T is the cheapest route. You can piece everything together for about a thousand dollars, less if you cut corners. SR swaps are going to be a very minimum of 2 grand, and it just goes up from there. Remember with a LSx engine you're gonna need custom driveshaft, custom mounts, wiring, custom exhaust, etc. SR20 is plug-and-play for the most part (except a little wiring.) Just do some searches on the subject and you will find out everything you could ever want to know.

satm83 06-09-2007 01:26 PM

ok well i guess i gatta go with the sr20det then...what is the most you have heard on the sr20det? and where do people get them?internet, shops, what??and not crap engines good ones ofcourse

OutToWinPAHC 06-09-2007 04:53 PM

Yeah... I got like 12000 into my swap. I paid 2800 for the motor, 1300 for the tranny, and I have 1700 into the rear on my S13..... But **** it, Im having fun.

OutToWinPAHC 06-10-2007 06:53 AM

I think its a valid question... granted there is alot of info on swaps, but not too much about total cost. Besides its better that he ask then not.

ryguy 06-10-2007 10:07 AM

Okay lets clear the air here. I think you are taking what I said to be much more malicious than it is. I guess I shouldnt have made the font that big or something. But that aside, still search. I can guarantee the information is there. If you dont believe me, later on when I have some time on my hands I will prove to you that it is there. But, this thread has gone WILDLY in the wrong direction and should be closed. Partly my fault, I know, but still.

And damnit the difference between a blacktop and redtop can be EASILY found in a search. JUST SEARCH. Its even better for you because you don't have to wait for a reply. S E A R C H

Here I did it for you. Everything you could ever need to know about the subject.

OK i just got rid of all the non sense, everyone please chill out.. satm83 take advice when it is given since you are the one that asked bro, thats across the board. I don't promote spoon feeding and you should take it upon yourself to search. many of us here have did tons of research in the past and have came to a level where we can give back.. this kind of behavior is seriously childish as some have pointed out and will not be tolerated.

that is all
