Rb20det or sr20det swap

I would like to know if i should get an rb20det or an sr20det red or black top.
Does anyone know whick swap will be cheapest after i get the engine. The enine will most likely go in S13 but maybe s14. i have not found the car yet. But maybe this week i will.

Yeah. you can probably find ar RB20DET cheaper than the SR20DET nowadays, seeing that SRs are much much more common. Both are good motors.
Both require similar amount of work to fit/function

price varies from each supplier but look about $1600-2300 for the SR and probably about $1000-1500 for the RB20.

And probably an additional $200 for small hoses, old parts, etc. that you might need to change and for wiring services.

My friend and I just recently put an rb20 into a buddies s13. He got the rb20 for 900 dollars plus 300 shipping off ebay. So 1200 for engine, tranny, ecu, maf, igniter chip, etc. In order to put the motor in, you have to get use i believe a r32 crossmember. OR pay 300ish dollars for tophat motor/tranny mounts(which is what we did)

So From start to finish to get his car up and running nicely, it cost just shy of 2000 dollars for an rb swap and thats all the labor ourselves. We had to make some small custom stuff. Thats complete motor set, motor mounts, front mount intercooler off ebay for rb20 s13, electric fans, fluids and some grade 8 nut and bolts. We made him a custom downpipe which was free and had to add some additional intercooler piping.

Which I believe about the same amount for an sr swap or maybe slightly less, but this is motorsets only, not front clips.

BTW his rb runs very strong and sounds even meaner.

Truths in comparing the 2 engines.
The sr engine is easier to install.
The sr engine has the same displacement as the RB20det.
The RB20det is a heavier cast iron motor.
The sr20det is an aluminum/steel sleeve block.
Hands down the SR was made for the s chassis with little to no modification in the swap.
The RB20's only advantage is allowing for faster spool times and having a much wider torque band due to the fact that it is an inline 6 rather than an inline 4. You have to consider that when you have an RB20 that the overall chassis weight will be heavier.

yup

luckly McKinney Motorsports mounts set the motor in there nice now and you still maintain the great 240 balance.

My buddy has had 3 RB20 240s and he loves em...... i guess so much that he sold his skyline gts-t that was daily drifted for his 240 back

I think we need a comprehensive engine swap choices sticky with all the main options and their positives and negatives. This topic comes up a lot on the different engines. Anyone that knows all the info and would like to make a go at it is welcome. We can always add and modify later as required

Back on topic. I would personally recomend the SR or either of the other RBs over an RB20 everytime. Either spend the extra money to get a 25/26 or jsut stick with the good ole SR

I think I would rather go with the SR20, simply based on the fact that aftermarket parts are more readily available. Not saying that you can't find parts for the RB20, but it won't be as easy as it would be for the SR or RB25 for that matter.
