s13 KA24DE & s14 KA24DE swapping compatibilities.........

so i jus ran into a pickle with my s13 w/ KADE. Thought i needed a new starter and a couple other pieces, so i bought my buddys s14 KADE w/ 105k on it and it came with an auto tranny for only $50. I feel like i made out really good on it. Anywho......i had the valve cover sanded down and painted up with some engine paint and clear coated. Looks friggn awesome.....until i went out to my car and found out that the s13 DE has 3 bolts between the spark plugs and the s14 DE has 2. The backside of my 13 has 2 bolts that hold it to the head....the 14 has 3. I take it, if i wanna use this valve cover-im gonna have to swap heads, correct??? any gains from this??? is there anything else i can swap over from the s14 motor to my s13 motor that would give me any benefits??? Also noticed the s14 distributor doesnt have a wire goin to the ignition coil, why is this?? i apologize for 21 questions, but i wanna know if the motor is worth having or did i jus buy the biggest paperweights ive ever seen. Anything on this would help greatly. Thanx guys

hahaha......would it be worth it to swap over the head and shyt from the s14 to the 13 block??? any diff between the 14 & 13 cams??? if i cant use anything.....we can work somthn out haha

nah theres no point man, only things you could do while its pulled apart are, use the s14 top intake manifold, remove all the emissions crap, and just have a different valve cover, the s13 cams are more agressive people say.

just posted some pics in my photo album of the new(er) motor and the one currently in the car. Tell me what u think.................

Nickmerrone 07-22-2009 07:07 PM

is that powder coated?

Biggamehit 07-22-2009 08:03 PM

...............dont swap a head just to use a valve cover....

if you want to use it that bad, drill and tap the head.

Nickmerrone 07-22-2009 08:57 PM

that was my point big. its not worht the time, just paint your current valve cover exactly like the other one.

i dig it. its not powdercoated-jus painted with engine paint the right way. took my time and it turned out pretty awesome. in all honesty-i picked up the motor to use as basically a donor for parts in case i ever need something (starter, alt, etc.....) because 240's here in columbus.....are freakin obselete in the j-yards. And if you do find one-its always a single slammer. Thought i mighta got lucky and coulda got some "free juice" from the newer motor. as always,i appriciate your guys' feedback. Thanx yall.

did it chip when you bolted it on?

1991se240sx 07-23-2009 01:04 PM

it isnt bolted down all the way yet. Jus pushed the gasket on and set it on there. Might of hand tightened a few but thats it.

Nickmerrone 07-24-2009 09:59 AM

oh..uh lemme know if you wanna get rid of it.

SmokedZenki 07-26-2009 10:11 AM

yeah i did the same thing with the valve cover i painted an s13 one to put on my s14 and found out it wasn't the same lol the intake is better on the s14... but the cams are less aggressive as said earlier... the distributor on an s14 has an internal coil verus the s13 with external coil... basically the engines are the same except for slight differences.... i also believe the compression in the s14 is slightly lower as well...not much to really notice a difference tho...

1991se240sx 07-26-2009 04:30 PM

would it be worth it to switch over the s14 intake?? time isnt an issue and down time for the nissan isnt a prob neither( got a nice lil handful of street worthy rides to drive in the meantime....hehe) i was thinkin about cleaning up the 14's intake mani with some steel wool and swappin it over.

1991se240sx 07-27-2009 07:10 AM

i been doin a lil searching on the SCV's and im still a lil lost on it. So from what ive compiled....since i have a 91 KA24DE then i have the SCV and butterflies right?? and the intake mani from the 95 KA24DE doesnt??? and its a direct and easy swap???
