S15 SR20DET swap?
S15 SR20DET swap?
has anybody done an s15 sr20det swap yet?
and just another question... how do you guys with the sr20det engine get it to pass smog and all that other good stuff to drive your rides on the street?

go to www.heavythrottle.com they have a list of the engines they have for sale the s15 is usually about a grand more than the s14. also its a lot harder to find an s15 in stock, much rarer. i dont think they r worth the money. Instead of getting the s15 with bigger injectors and the t28 just buy a cheaper engine and upgrade to even better than that.
no... i don't have anything to do with that SINFUL_23 ... SINFUL comes from the bodyshop from which i'm sponsored. SINFUL ENHANCEMENTS AUTO BODY... go to www.sinfulenhancements.com
the shop is located in SAN DIEGO, CA for all you local heads... hit up the shop if you need anything modded to your car!

well... how much of a difference do you think it would be if i were to just get a blacktop sr20det and throw on the bigger injectors, and the bigger turbo? wouldn't it be cheaper to just go with the s15 that already has it stock, rather than upgrading the parts? especially considering if you have a shop install those parts for you. plus... i like the fact that the s15 sr20det has VVT.
No, you're probably better off just upgrading the blacktop. A bigger turbo and injectors should not cost you as much as the difference between the two motors.
As for the VVT on the S15, most Japanese tuners get rid of it because it's just an added complication that doesn't benefit the car's ultimate performance, just makes the stock car a bit more driveable and torquey off the line. It's really not necessary on a modified turbo car, it's just something else that can go wrong.

And don't waste your money having a shop install bigger injectors and a turbo.
Injectors are a no brainer (as long as they are sidefeed, topfeed type requires new fuel rail) and the turbo is not that hard. It's quite accessable compared to some cars I've installed them on (Toyota MR2-what a ***** to get to, Audi A4- not much easier). Just have someone help you that knows what they are doing.

the 6 speed tranny has been known to fail in higher horsepower applications. So if you plan on going past 300 whp, I would stick with the 5 spd.
It'll be cheaper so spend the extra money on an upgraded clutch, flywheel, and maybe even an lsd (two wheel action .

Is the 6speed really that bad? I really want to get to the 350, 400 hp range. But if its goin to b a headache then I won't bother. Also my car needs tranny mounts. Does the S14 SR20 use the same tranny mounts as the KA? Just wants to know if I'll have to change tranny mounts again when I install an S14 SR20.
