which sr20????

well i would like to get the s15 version but since theyre pretty new theyre expensive but the s13 version is cheaper but less power so wut should i do wait it out and save or s13 it. and no rb's theyre to heavy and i dont need taht much power.

s13 is fine, with the extra money it costs to buy an s15 SR and the extra money for the install, you can have an s13 SR making the same power or more.

zenkislider Jun 26, 2006 11:08 AM

go with s14 SR, dont go with the S15 SR there to exspensive, and i heard there transmisions arent very good.

motegineon Jun 26, 2006 04:04 PM

s14 sr

S13 is good for top end.

S14/15 are more for response and linear power.

S13= cheaper

S14/15=more expensive

Just buy a B16

project180sx Jun 27, 2006 11:01 AM

wow, b16. dont give people ideas. they just might do it.

Nismo1 Jul 9, 2006 12:26 PM

a civic just gives people another reason to keep Wal-Mart in business...APC should thank Honda owners

Fico Jul 10, 2006 01:21 PM

Ok, cheapest SR on the market is red top S13, but if you want an SR that can take the most abuse, go with the black top S13. For the $ and reliability, go with the black top S13. The S15 SR motor is (from what I hear) the weakest, but most powerful of the DET line. But S13 has no variable valve timing valve train like the S14 and S15.

Now if you got $ to spend and time to search Europe, try to source out an SR20VET. The most powerful and most reliable of all SR's ever made pushing out 280 hp. But for the $ u spend on the VET, might as well build an HKS powered RB26 and get it dialed in like tits.

Back to subject, S13 black top hands down. Can't go wrong with that motor. Or, find S14 bare block and swap the S15 internals over, bore out the head ports to S15 specs and you have a bad ass SR with variable valve timing.

In finishing my blabbing, for the reliability and durability, go with the black top S13.

aren't the blacktop and the redtop almost an identical motor with minor differences? they make the same power.

motegineon Jul 25, 2006 07:50 PM

yes they are, with a few minor differences. The only way they could possibly be more reliable is because they generally have less miles on them since they are newer engines..

jspaeth Jul 25, 2006 08:40 PM

to original thread starter...

I see you live in NY....I am getting an SR20 from Heavy Throttle, which is right near Poughkeepsie....they seem to have a good reputation.

You pay more than other places, but I talked to the owner on the phone many times now, and he insists they only sell the highest quality, cleanest engines.

He told me today that many of the engines that have been coming in recently possibly have as little as 20-30,000 miles on them, and that they never sell engines that they think have more than 50K on them.

Might be a good place to shop, since it's in your state....
