Hi im pretty new to this and i was going thru tha forum and noticed that alot of ppl want tha sr20. Wats tha dif between Tha KA and SR? i noticed there were two kinds of Sr's, tha red and black, wats tha dif??
|
if u do a search on this forum u kan find a lot of info and the KA and SR:thumb:
|
Search = very useful tool
But very quickly and basically: KA is the NA stock engine that came in all US models The SR is the Japanese spec engine turboed straight from the factory. Internals are all ready for boost. They make over 200 hp depending on the model. But yeah, do a search, there's tons of info thrown around in these forums. |

4 "versions" of the SR:
S13 Redtop: 90.5-94.5: Appeared in the chuki model 180SX and the kouki model S13 Silvia S13 Blacktop: 94.5-98: Appeared in the kouki model 180SX. There was also a later change called the Type X, which occured in 96.5 The only differences between the blacktop and redtop S13's is the blacktop is newer, has minor ecu changes and has grooves on the cylinder head. That is it, no power changes. Same ****. S14 Notchtop: 94.5-97.5 Appeared in Zenki/Kouki S14 models. Has less-desired low port head, adds VTC to add to low/mid range power, and upgrades to a T28BB turbo S15 Notchtop: 98-01 Appeared in the S15 Silvia. Has less-desired low port head, retains VTC to add low/mid range power and retains T28BB (with ceramic blades if memory serves me right, but could be totally bogus). S15 turbo model has 6 speed transmission The S14 and S15 engines look exactly the same. The only way to tell them apart is usually the transmission. I'm told that the S15 uses different valve cover bolts, but I had an S14 and an S15 engine in front of me during one of my visits to phase2, and they had the same bolts, so the truth behind that is undecided. There are also the AWD (US FWD) versions, but RWD is more fun, so I'm going to leave those out ;) |
