SR20DET - Definately NOT Impressed

I had a spare SR20DET lying around and got bored, so I decided to do the swap into one of my 240's....took a few hours, got it wired up and took it to the street. 1st gear pulls nice, but holy ****....that engine is SLOW. My KA NA runs about 2 tenths faster in the 1/4 with intake, header, exhaust, test pipe, wires, and plugs....someone please tell me that all bone-stock SR20DET's don't run mid 15's in the 1/4? According to all of the guys down here at the track, that's what they are supposed to run, but I expected more out of that puny little thing.

Night

you better get your SR tested cause theres no way its that slow, if you can compare your SR with a lightly moded KA, theres gotta be something wrong, i had a KA with pretty much same mods and it was nothing to my SR

ProricanRacer 01-09-2004 07:15 AM

ahaha.....there's something wrong with your SR20 Night....i'm pretty sure it isn't suppose to run 15's it's actually suppose to be down in the lower 13's...and that's bone-stock!

lies lies lies, stock srs dont even see 14s. mid 15s to low 15s(very good driver can see a 14.8 or 9)It is proven from all the people i know, BONE STOCK SRs dont run fast at all. Hell RSX type s run about the same time as SRs. And your right night....the SR isnt all that its hyped up to be, but its got potential. Thats the number #1 thing, then again a rB20 has even more potential and is cheaper by a few hundred, HMMM:Dlol

Yeah, the guys here were saying that a 15.5-15.8 was what I should look for (different SR owners)...one of em has a SR with over 400 rwhp....anyhow, they are nothing short of un-impressive. The only thing I liked about it was the sound of turbo again which is pretty quiet due to them being so tiny. A 13 second 1/4 on a bone stock SR20DET....haha, you'd need a LSD, and run on a track that has a 6% downhill grade. =o)

and big slicks.....

This is the reason as to why I get so confused, with my relatively stock RB20 I ran a 14.6@97mph shifting WAY early(6K) with a crappy 2.7 60'. And most people do the swap to go fast, but why waste the 3500+ on an SR that runs 15's, when you could have a faster motor for under 2500. I guess logic doesn't apply sometimes, but there has been about 5 guys that were die hard SR swappers, who are now about to order RB20 clips.

RB20 <3

SR20DET in 95 240 ran 13.7 street tires and 14psi boost.
and I thought that was ok. I know with stock boost a stock crx will leave me.

I rather have an SR or KA than an RB. I bought my 240 to have a cheap RWD car with a 4-banger, good looks and good suspension. If I truly cared about being the fastest when I go to the track I would've gotten a Camaro for example. But I don't mind having a car that's not the fastest in the world. I'd rather do more with less if anything tho.

So misinformed. If you'd rather go SR or KA over RB20 being the least, then you are paying more for less. Rb20 swap is cheaper than doing KAT and SR.

Nismo said the exact words i was ganna say. Whay pay more for less:dunno:What ever floats your boat though!

my friend that got a s13 with an sr slightly modded like high flow filter, 3' downpipe, testpipe, 3prong clutch, new piping, and a high flow fuel pump and other little things ran a 14.3

Wow now you guys are starting to make me think about the RB instead. Hmm....:dunno:

My car with a RB25, LSD, Stage 4 Clutch, Intake, DP, Exhaust, and plugs ran a 12...and I believe I spent quite a bit less than anyone with a SR would to get their engine that high. My ECU was also tuned and chipped because I could shift at 7200 RPM's instead of the stock 6800...and I had the fuel turned up a little bit on its duty cycle....all in the tuning.
