SR20DET Swap Questions

Hello everyone! :thumb: I drive an integra now, and Mike was taken, so I went with this name.

I am working on doing a swap soon, into a 240sx. I am not sure on an S13 or S14 donor car yet, but that can be determined later. I have a few questions with the SR20DET, that hopefully you guys can answer and help me out, and maybe some other people have simiar questions. I have been browsing through the threads and the internet, so hopefully I'm not asking something already answered (please hold back on the scolding if I do :p )

Ok, first things first I am still working on locating a good front clip dealer. Has anyone had better luck with local shops, rather than internet orders? I have been looking on a few sites on the thread that lists a handful. I thought the front clip was the whole front of the car, but from what I am seeing most do not include the headlights (not completely necessary) or the intercooler (necessary). If it comes with an intercooler then it would have all of the piping making it easier. Does anyone know any good places to get this kind of clip, or at least including an intercooler?

Next, does the stock SR20DET have a blow off valve? Or just a wastegate? If it does not have a blow off valve, then what is the reason most people are adding them, besides the much-wanted sound?

The wiring harness and ecu; the ECU in our 240sx's is in the passenger floor. The Japanese cars are opposite driver, so isn't the ECU on the other side of the car? What is done to account for this difference, as chances are the harness plugs are on the wrong side of the motor for our cars?

Does the stock bumper on the 240sx allow for the intercooler installation? Most front clips do not include the body panels, and rarely the intercooler and bumper.

Is there a difference between a Silvia and a 180sx SR20DET? I have seen a few sites that offers each, with different prices, but same engine specifications.

What is the deal with flash options? They appear to have a good site, yet I have seen nothing good about them on these boards.

That's it for now guys, thanks for the help in advance!

ok this is what i know...
front clips should come with body panels and front bumper, they are just usualy damaged from shipping, accidents, ect.
the ecu is on the other side for the jdm cars, the harness has to be modified.
blow off valve prolong the life of your turbo because the release the pressure that is goibng to thrown back at your turbo and make it spin in oposite direction. so it will make your turbo last longer by venting the air. not sure if they come with a wastgate or bov.

Ok, thanks for your input. I know it comes with a wastegate, not sure if it is internal or external, just not sure if it comes with a blowoff valve.

Skiboard06 Dec 21, 2004 08:06 PM

it comes with a small internal wastegate that is set stock at 7 psi the stock sr in japan has a recirculating valve that takes the air a BOV would release and reroutes it back into the intake piping. this is because air released to the atmosphere by a BOV is already accounted for by the mafs and they car will be putting fuel in ready for this air. the pig nose front bumper and fit upto large fmic's and the smic will fit any bumper but prefer a 91-94 with a opening to the plastic shroud of the smic. The silvia is a 240sx coupe with an sr20det in it. the 180sx is the 240 fastback with a sr in it. i got my swap from a guy named "engine man" i found online it wasnt a clip but it was everything out of a clip rad, shroud, ignitor chip, ecu, intercooler and piping, engine tranny. when u put an sr in it works out that u can mount the ecu in the same place but u will need to extend the 02 sensor wires, mafs wires, and the ecu to dash wiring. this is not difficult but if u send ur wiring out for 100$ this will all be done for you what are these flash options people talk about?

IntegraMike Dec 21, 2004 10:20 PM

How much did you pay for your motor and everything? Do you know how many miles (is it in kilometers when most people mention it or is it actually converted) yours had on it? Do you know how I can get ahold of this person? And where can I have the harness modified for $100? Thank you.

Waynehead05 Dec 21, 2004 10:35 PM

don't buy from flash options... i've only heard bad things too. Doesn't really matter why... bad is bad.

IntegraMike Dec 21, 2004 10:39 PM

I know it doesn't matter why, but what have they done? I am just trying to find a dealer that offers a complete complete front clip.

iroc07 Dec 21, 2004 11:19 PM

if you get a dealer that includes everything you need, like the guy sikboard was talking about, you should have no reason to go with a whole clip. Unless you plan on doing a RHD conversion on the car. Most clips (almost all) will NOT come with bodywork, mostly cause the body work will be sold for about $1000 if it is in usable condition.
the wiring harness service can be done by heavy throttle in new york, or you can even go on ebay and purchase a modified harness with the exchange of your old one for the same price. either way it costs you about $100
if you decide to do an RB swap this is a little harder to find. I do it, but not many other people do.
if you look on the vendor section of this board there is a dealer who seems to have good prices. If he is selling good stuff I will be ordering clips and motors from him for my customers to save them a few bucks.
the wiring harness and computer go in the same spot as your original one did, when you get the harness modified it extends the wires so you can wrap it around the engine the way the US harness was loomed.
If you have any more questions feel free to contact me at: iroc_07@yahoo.com

heavythrottle.com i think we will be the most reliable place to do your wiring they test all the connections and everything reliable i got mine from engine man i would search for his company on google thats how i found him hes sets u up with importers that send u a motor with a guarantee

If ur doin a swap, make sure its a UNCUT Wiring Harness.. Let me repeat that....UNCUT Wiring Harness. They are a ***** to find and expensive.

IntegraMike Dec 22, 2004 09:54 PM

Ok, yes that is one of the main things I am looking for. I am still looking for a good source with a wiring schematic or directions for fixing up the harness. I may end up sending it in, but I would hate to do that with the wealth of information I am sure is available.

Well known local Nissan dealer, Courtesy, sells premodified wiring harnesses for the sr20det swap.

300$ is a lot too pay for something that should come with your swap. but it is nice to know we got that kind of support out there if needed. 4 things u should make sure you get mafs, ecu, ignitor chip, and uncut wiring harness these are critical for the swap and cost a lot to replace
