cigarette lighter socket not working.

hello, my question is what else can be done to check where the break is or whats wrong with it. i dont even smoke but i like everything in my car to work. i already changed the fuse under the dash and looked for broken wires. im not sure what else to do. any ideas?

You need a test light. Check if it is getting power and ground. Check if the fuse is getting power. If fuse has power, but plug on lighter does not, follow the wires back to see if anything is unplugged.

the fuse works and theres nothing disconnected. is it possible to have the socket blow out? im not sure they could do that but is it possible?

Does it work with a cell phone charger or anything like that, or does it not get any power whatsoever? The cigarette lighter (the part that actually gets hot) mine came with was defective.

mine "works", by that i mean that it dose work but i need to wiggle around what ever it plugged in. i rarely us it so i haven't bothered to fix it.

no it doesnt charge the lighter part and doesnt work with a cellphone charger either. that why i was wondering if the socket could go bad.

A socket COULD go bad, possibly...but it's kind of rare for that to happen unless it was like...really physically broken apart. What you can try is get a +12v source and attach it to the 12v on your cig. lighter, then find a new ground. Test the socket to see if it works with the +12v source and new ground, that'll rule out the bad socket. From there, test the +12v source and the old ground, then the other way around to see where the problem is coming from.

...Or you could do like Charles said and get a test light. Up to you.

It's a matter of narrowing it all down.

Good luck.
