06 Triptronic Scion vs. 98 240sx (auto)
Ok so there's this kid that got a new car on Friday. Now he thinks he is the shyt. He blabs about getting this and that for his car, but when I ask him a simple question like "What kind of turbo are you getting?" he responds with "I don't know" I wanted to tell him "Whatever you parents buy you", because his parents did buy him the car. Anyways, what do ya'll think?? Do I have a chance against him or will his car get me.
Scion: 160hp FWD and weighs more than mine.
240: 145hp RWD weighs less.
Either way it turns out kinda good because if I win it will shut his *** up but if i lose i can say i kept up with a car that cost about 3 times as mine.
What do ya'll think?

personally, you younsgters need to chillout. vent the testosterone elsewhere. but if you must, take it to your nearest track, practice launching before hand. tCs are not "tiptronic" just either auto or manual. and that glass roof on the tc is a killer, car weighs in at around 3000 lbs.
but ionno. from reviews online, 0-60 in about 8 sec and the 1320 at around 16~ (conditions vary) but this is done with the manual. the rest depends on your car. get some VHT track bite, hehe...

scions suck. they are like $13k new. small and heavy. sounds close, race him in turns and you will have an advantage. keep it off the street if u can. if he says something else about his scion being better dont let it get to you... it's an econobox for god sakes and looks worse than 4x4 civic
well your both in an automatic, but you have the advantage of being RWD. also if he uses that "slapstick" or whatever its called this week, you should be even better. many cars with that shift slower at WOT then if in full auto (my moms eclipse shure does). just practice launching.
You'd have a good chance if you know how to drive. <- not too hard since its AUTO. As well, many people(IF it does in-fact have tip-tronic) don't know how to shift, or when to shift. Many think you shift at redline. 240 gets max power around 5,300 i think, so your better off shifting around there, otherwise you loose top-end in that gear, and lose accelerating time in the next gear up.
I think you have a good chance.
Just remember, on your launch, START to roll, then punch it. Don't go from a stop to flooring it. -- never works out
or ....
Lay down some nasty smoke, and tear out of the lot. LOL
Take a corner sideways
Tell him to do that in his FWD.

If you want to prevent burning out too much on your launch do this...Come to a complete stop.
Put the tranny in Neutral (Dont get scerred, im not done
)
Rev the engine a bit (4-5K) as you have your left foot floored on the brake pedal. As you release the gas, the pedal will push in further.
Now put your tranny back to drive (Or 1 if you prefer to shift) without releasing your foot of the brake pedal.
Now rev it like your about to do a break stand but only rev until right before you break traction. Usually around 2k. You should feel it about to break traction.
When they say go, let go of brake and punch it all the way. Thats how ive always launched in an auto. Even in my Maxima which LOVES to break traction when I floor it only chirped the wheels and took off

Scions and 240s are really evenly matched, the scion actually has the same size engine but the scion has 10 hp on the 240 but it also weighs more as somebody said above. Ive raced a stock tc in my auto 240sx and he had a better start than i did but i still beat him. But, they are pretty much exactly the same speed-wise (in stock form) so good luck and get your launch down and you should have it.
