Hey, I have been seriously thinking about importing a 180sx from japan, and have been doing my research on it. One thing I can't find is info on the Brakes, if I need new brakes, what vehicle has the same brakes as the 180? I don't think I can use 300zx parts, so if anyone can help me out with this let me know. Will I have to import my brakes? Also, what about little things like the oil filter, and other other maintenance parts?

And this would be a 91-92 with the SR20DET engine.

Uhhh... wtf? Shouldn't the brakes be the same as the 240's here? And use the search function. There's a database here or on zilvia that has all the part numbers for all sr20det parts that are readily available in the states.

Everything but the engine and some interior options is identical to the 240. Search, theres tons of info out there on this. So to answer your question, 240sx brakes.

Then how come 240 owners talk about upgrading to 180sx brakes?

the brakes are different on a 180 the rotors are the same size as altima rotors and i think the caliper is the same as from a maxima

I gotta get bigger brakes myself. The vert is just too heavy for stock brakes. Even my friend is like "Dude, your car feels so much heavier when you're braking" and he's a car noob lol.

i got your solution dump the 180sx brakes in your nearest trash can and buy 300zx or skyline calipers jk man.
i didnt know 180sx had bigger brakes it must not be a very popular upgrade cause the 300zx is bigger and easy to find. also my 180sx front clip had brakes calipers rotors and everything i junked them cause i had 300zx brakes and i thought they were the same as 240sx brakes.

im pretty sure the 180s were a little bigger but still just 1 piston calipers

importing a 180sx is a very logical choice, almost as logical as suicide.

if you had the necessary information and connections you would have already wasted your money actually importing a 180sx rather than wasting your time posting up the idea on a forum.

i see that you live in canada, i understand that cars such as the R32 C3X and A31 are available to you guys, and so im sure 180sxs are too, but when the 240sx was actually sold in north america, whats the point?

importing a 180sx is a waste of time. 240sx is basically, almost exactly, the same thing. why waste the extra money?

Its not going to cost me much more to get it. First of all, a 180 comes with the SR20det STOCK, so there are no corners cut on the install. By the time I buy a front clip or engine and install, its going to be a lot of cash. I can get a pretty clean 180 with an sr20 for about 7k, with about 100 000 kms on it. Find me a clean S13 with an SR20det with 100 000 or less kms for 7k or 8k.

Plus Japan = NO rust.

Canadian S13 = Rust Nightmare


And in the end, Its Right Hand Drive.

Hey, you learn something new every day. According to Wikipedia, the 180sx's brakes are trivially stronger than the 240s. It said they were bigger mainly for heat dissipation. Get some Z brakes.

you do know that in japan it does snow right? and with snow they throw salt on the road so water+salt ya in japan there is rust too probably just as bad as Canada if the car was driven as much

You could get a 240 shell for around $500, grab a front clip or motorset for $3000 or less, and you have a 240sx with SR20 for well under $5000. This is just my personal opinion, if you want to import a 180sx though, go for it...
