2010 Nissan FR Sports Coupe (240SX replacement)

Nissan is not going to let Toyota/Subaru grab all the attention with a new light weight, low cost RWD coupe. A spiritual successor to the 240SX is coming in 2010, supposedly one year before the competition.

Yet another image has been leaked from Nissan’s GT 2012 meeting held in May, this time it’s a side view of the upcoming FR sports coupe due to go on sale in 2010. The image reveals just enough to give a good idea of what the final shape will be and going by similar images of the next generation Z12 Cube and Z34 Fairlady Z (370Z) which were also revealed at the meeting, Nissan isn’t going to let the new FR coupe loose without its own unique identity. Another interesting feature is the small third “quarter window” and the pronounced rear blister fender.

Mechanical specifications have changed slightly for the better since we last reported on the FR sports coupe, it’s still rumored to have a 2000cc inline 4 cylinder engine using Nissan’s VCR (Variable Compression Ratio) technology only this time it’s almost certain it will be turbocharged. It’s also possible the 2.0L engine will make use of a VVEL system similar to what is used in the VQ37VHR engine found in the V36 Nissan Skyline coupe. Power is still rumored to be 225ps with 35.0kg/m of torque to move the 1200kg (2640lbs) coupe around.

The FR sports coupe will position itself at the bottom of Nissan’s performance car tree being the cheapest in price but will offer a more sports orientated driving experience compared to the more expensive V36 Skyline Coupe. Once the new entry level FR sports coupe is released it will emphasize Nissan’s performance car range as one which is well defined and offers plenty of choice, which is in complete contrast to earlier on in the decade.

photoshoped tiburon. well said. all this stuff seems like made up teasers and thats also not cool.

as long as the looks change somewhat I might buy it depending on the price, I mean it weighs very little for a new car and has a good amount of horses so I think at least mechanically it is a step in the right direction.

looks bulky for an s chassis. s13 14 and 15 were so sleek. i like the fornt end though.

Agreed. Decent from the front, terrible from the rear.

thats just a rendering and no one ever said this would be an s-chassis even though nissan would be stupid not to because the S-chassis is already well established with most japanese sports car enthusiast's and it can still appeal to the masses

Darkvillin 06-22-2008 06:27 PM

i hope nissan's not stupid and i hope carlos gohsn (how ever u spell his name) is smart enough to not miss out on making a sexy car. the mx-5 miata is still holding strong. cheap rwd fun.

I've heard that Nissan has put a lot of thought into it's variable compression engines. I heard that this car turbo charged should make relatively 30MPG. Not bad for a turbo charged application. With over 220crank HP (185 Wheel HP).
On the metric PS conversion calculator 225PS is greater than or equal to 221.9 HP, rounding up it will probably be advertised for 222HP in the U.S.
