240 poppin flames

Last night me and my friend were driving around in his sentra se-r, and we came across a red s13 with red street glow, and when my friend got on the gas too go get up to him the s13 took off and made a left through back streets, both cars were wailing through back streets and the s13 was popping flames every few shifts..i was in awe...we just wanted to see what he had...cause i never heard of a KA popping flames..but he busts a left through a bike trail and wails through there...after he did that we decided he was crazy and we just went the other way...

It was just crazy

He was probably just running rich...

Either that or the slim chance that he had a super-high-powered motor under the hood...

Always go with the simplest explaination until it is disproved.

He was probably running rich. I am pretty sure any car with improper fuel tuning (and a big can exhaust) can pop flames.

I'm not to clear on the concept of running rich... I think it means he's running with more fuel and so the excess gets exited through the exhaust? If that's what it is, does that damage the components of a car?

It potentially could.

I don't know the more mechanical damages it causes, but the common sense ones. O2 sensor, Muffler, and running rich even without shooting flames will score your bumper, especially if your car is a lighter color.

It can also cause excess wear on the exhaust valves, the exhaust manifold, and the catalytic converter.

A lot of Tuned RX-7s tend to do that, some people call it backfire. Looks pretty cool, but it isnt that big of a thing.

That's the Misfiring System. I had this link that explained why WRX cars have it, but I lost it.
