Question Alternator Replacement

My daughter has a 91 240sx, and I think the alternator needs to be replaced. Has anybody done one that could give me some pointers. Looks pretty tight in there, which way to remove up or down in vehicle?? Thanks in advance!!

pulling it down underneath worked better for me.
if you want to upgrade to a bigger alternator, you can do so with one from a 1997 Nissan Quest. it has 110 amp alternator. you do have to redrill the mounting holes with a 3/8" drill bit. good luck!
Installation/removal.
0) Disconnect negative battery terminal - take out the whole battery if you have it in your engine bay.

1) First off, as per FSM, remove your pulley belts, then the alternator. There are 3 plugs that are attached to the back of the alternator: a small 8mm bolt holding the ground wire, and a 10mm nut holding down the power wire & some other wires, and lastly the electrical connector that needs to be pushed down then pulled out - I did so w/ a screwdriver since it was pretty stuck.

Then there are the 2 bolts - 12mm on top, and 14mm on bottom.
4) Install in reverse order. Install will be much easier if you can remove your fan & shroud to get them out of the way and install it thru the top. The quest alternator is slightly larger than the 240sx alternator.

5) Use the inside 3 ribs of the 4 ribs on the Quest alternator.

Question ALTERNATOR REPLACE

Did you have to move anything out of the way dropping in down thru the bottom. Looks like sway bar and engine mount in the way? Thanks for the info on larger size.

i didn't have to move anything out of the way with the stock unit. just had to twist and turn the alternator.

Thanks for the info, I wasn't thrilled with lifting the engine up to get it out. Thanks again

it's not much of a mod.....you're just drilling the hole bigger so that the bolt will fit.
