anybody try window welding your motor mounts?
 

My engine keeps shifting like it wants to turn over on its head everytime i lift the throttle. I want nismo's mounts but can't afford them right now.

Anybody hear of window welding your old motor mounts? I read it on a couple of forums on different cars but i was wondering if anyone has experienced it with the 240sx. And if i attempt to do this, i'm not exactly sure where to apply the weld either so please someone enlighten me.

How about the transmission mounts?

I've heard of putting polyurethane in the mounts to stiffen them up. You can try that and it should work.

i was putting solid mounts on my stang but they are a pain in the ass to mount and sit right

Mounts aren't that expensive. Changing out something twice is....

yup get the nismo mounts along with the engine damper. i would have to think if u welded the mounts and drive it daily. u would have problems.

like some things are designed to have just a lil give. this is where all that physics stuff apply. adding the hard polyurathane mount will make ur car vibrate so i wonder what welded mounts would do. but u will have awsome response becuase the motor will transmit all the power down the drivetrain.

^^Window weld isn't traditional welding.. it's urethane and you use a caulking gun.

Last time i checked nismo mounts were 200 bucks... that's a little too much for me right now. 3m window weld is 11 bucks.

oh ok, so its like what I said about filling the mounts. I dunno what kinda stuff they use, but you should be able to do that and be ok

not sure what the motor mounts on theis car look like but... you fill all the holes and gaps and essentially make it one solid piece...
so if you look at the mount, and you see the steel that mounts to the engine then rubber and then steel that mounts to the chasis... you want to make the rubber piece inteh center one solid chunk. you may have to put a piece of carboard with wax paper (so the weld doesnt stick to teh cardboard) behind the mount to give you a surface to work with.... then just fill till its solid.

Window weld is also known as NP-1, or sika flex. It is a horrible way to try and fix mount's. Although it bonds well, it doesn't have the strength that the actual rubber has on the mount's. So really it's only a temporary solution to your problem. So technically the 1 day in time it takes you to seal the mount's with polyuerathane, and reinstall, it will just go down the sh I ter within a month or 2 of use for replacement again any ways. Whats the point? If I were you drive your car easily until you can afford good mount's....

F U C K IT there is nothing wrong with after market OEM for $85, might as well just replace the mounts.......

I have to agree with vinnie on this one. i have never heard of fixing moutns with window weld. i guess it will work temporarily. I always heard the honda guys use the stuff to make their functioning mounts stiffer by filling them and limiting movement.
