if i had it to do all over again, my first car would have been the 240. if based on nothing else but the RWD aspect. i dunno, i've always preferred RWD cars over FWD's. even before i knew what cornering was (when was that, like last week?:p ). when u look at initial cost, overall cost of ownership, fun to drive factor, and practicality, there isn't much of a contest (IMHO ;) )...

Just backtracking on the MR2 thing. My previous car was an MR2 GTS, they are very unforgiving if you treat them wrong, dont get me wrong they are lovely cars very fast and have a replica engine to the GT4 rally car just be carfull. I spent 5 weeks in a back brace when a truck demolished my car. A 240 is solid where as an MR2 was just made to be fast in a straight line and not much else

Totally agree Dr! when i meant about them made for a straigt line i meant it was pointless accelerating hard around corners etc, because you will just end up in a hedge with live telephone cables landing on the engine cover like me:(

what about a sc300? i heard those can be pretty crazy with a turbo. i seen a article in SCC they put an "F max" or some thing turbo on it and it gained 150 hp and 130 lb ft of tourqe  . i know it has the supra engine in it and its RWD. what you think about that car? plus its a lexus, little bit of pimp factor

Lexus with a Supra engine????
Thats a pretty interesting combo. |

I'm pretty sure a lexus isn't even close to the same catagory as a 240sx or tegra

If you can afford a lexus! hell yeah! For that price i'd buy me a way better car though, but yeah, Lexus's are great luxery vehicles. I wouldn't take it drifting though, heh
Dr. |
i would totally go for a SC..a lil expensive though and ive heard the matience is a lil expensive. Hell its a lexus, its expensive period lol. If i had the money is buy it, those things can drift!
|
they are not that expensive. on kelly blue book a 1995 with 100k miles on it is 10grand while a 1995 240sx with 100k miles on it is 5 grand. and seein as how if i wanted to compete with some people with the 240 most obvious thing would be to get the swap done and even then the car would be down about 20hp from the lexus. while the sc300 would not need a swap. so the price difference would be even smaller. also i have seen the sc300's for less than 10g's and ive seen the 240's for more, and vice versa of course. but my point is that you CAN find a sc300 for about the same price as some 240's. i just wanted to know what you guys thought about it. ive basically abandoned all want of the integra as im really gettin tired of seein them. if i were to get a car it would really be between the 240 and the sc300 and i just wanted to know what you thought about it as a first car and what your experiences were, for those of you that had/have one.
|
I heard that its hard to drift those sc300 when you get them cause of the ride controls. They make it so it rides smooth and doesn't spin out. Thats what I remember.
If you have the money, and you can maybe disable some stuff so it drifts easier. Then go for it. |
ok, i'll drop two pennies here right quick:
i'm not sure if it's the SC or not, but i know that at least one of the Japanese D1 drifters uses a similar toyota model , the chaser. (i'm not sure what the chaser and soarer equate to in u.s. lexus terms, but i know it's RWD). and it's a heavy beast. not to say that u'd be getting this thing to drift it, but it is possible. also, there's a video on the net somewhere (i've got it on my pc @ home) of a TT SC300 running down a viper and some other ish. the damn thing was farkin nasty. so yeah, incredible things can be done with it (and it's luxurious and sexy to boot:D ). of course that's not to say that i'd prefer one to my 240.;) but i have no problem with the "in addtion to" factor...:spin: |
yes i believe the sc300 is the japanese soarer. and yes its a damn heavy car. about 3800 lbs i believe. and you knwo what? im gonna go look for that vid right now sil40 :thumb:
