Car shaking when holding the brakes
Does anyone know why when i stop at a stop light or when i just stop my car vibrates. When i put it in neutral it stops. What could be the cause of it?
*Edit* Also can sumone help me set up my sig? |
warped rotors, baby!
|
no im' tlaking about after i already stopped. Like if im' waiting for a green light
|
i'm guessing you have an automatic.
does it happen in park or reverse? is your idle fluctuating badly? |
just a guess...
when you've got it in gear, and if you press the brake pedal down, there is enough of a load on the engine that it brings the rpm down and the car idles rougher. mine does it too |
Yeah it's an auto :(. I'm not sure exactly wat is it but it annoys the F|-|ck out of me
|
how many rpms does it idle at when i does this? You may need to adjust something... that or you have some bad motor mounts and your engine is running really rough lol
|
um it's normal idle. i think like 5-600
|
with or without the a/c on? I know that its supposed to idle at 750 without the a/c on. mine idles at 900-1k with the a/c on

something needs to be adjusted... im not sure what it is on the 240's, but theres something

Ok. This can be fun but it is a pain in the balls. Sounds and shakes in cars are tedious to find.
Ok so it shakes when the car is in gear standing still but not noticable when moving. I would check: Motor mounts Tranny mount You might not feel this when you are moving because well the car is in motion and you are getting more input. You can try this if you know where your throttle cable goes to on your intake manifold. 1. Start the car. 2. Open the hood. 3. Place hand on throttle assembly keep your other hand away from the fan it can hurt ;) 4. Give the car a little throttle. Not much as the imput needed to rev it is not much. 5. Release the throttle. When you rev the car see if the motor moves when you throttle it. There should be some play but not much. If you see that the motor is moving then your motormounts might be sloppy. This happens more when you are driving because there is torque on the motor. Also you can just look at the motormounts to see if the rubber is dried cracked or look old as piss. 1992 240sx leads me to think that the mounts can be crapped out. Good luck dude! -Stanley |
How hard are motor mounts to replace btw?
|
I would belive probly not to hard but u would have to move then engine off them
