Carport size for 240 storage

Living in the Northeast, our winters aren't the best for working and storing cars. I was planning on building a single port wooden garage to store and work on my car during the winter but my dad was tell me about all the codes we have and it isn't as simple as just putting it up.

So I found a few metal framed carports. I found one that comes with a complete covering and the size is 12'x20'x8'. Do you think this will be big enough for the car and me to work on it?

That size gives about 3.5 feet in the front and in the back and 3 feet on both sides.

IMO it's a tight fit once you take into consideration some other stuff, like floor jacks, "rolling on the creeper" space, ventilation, etc. but if you have to, it seems big enough to get the job done - although I'd probably go 1 step larger. I'm assuming this is a complete covered port with walls.

Yes it is steel pipes with covered tarp all around with roll up front.

What size do you think would work well? I do think this will be tight as well but I think it will work.

Hmm... if you could say, roll up the sides about 3 feet off the ground, then you'd have extra legroom if you're under the car. If I had to pick a number, I'd probably want at least 5-6 feet all around. Space is good, I hate working in tight places.

Just mark it on the ground. 4 steel pipes, quick creet junk, some 4''x6'' , some kind of roof (flat).

a friend of mines garage is probably about that size with maybe a little more room in the front. Its ok for working on a car, but it is very tight and can be a pain in the ***

So you think a few more feet on each side will be good
