Gettin into a 95, Few Q's...

Hello, yes let the noob flaming begin!...well noob to the 240 community.
I previously owned an Evolution and it was a blast taking into low 12s with bolt ons and modding it was a b*tch and also very exciting at the same time. Pricetag of over 30k hurts ur pockets pretty well, so now i've decided to move onto a cheaper alternative...a 95 240sx..

The car i am looking into is a 95 240sx which is pretty clean inside and out. Has a 96 stock motor dropped into it due to previous problems. Test drove it, tranny shifts like a dream, runs well to redline, might need a new MAF sensor, needs some new parts (tie rod ends, bushings, etc..suspension wise). Besides that it runs nice. Well onto the point...

-I plan on droppin the all-famous SR20DET, but want to know which one to go with? black top, red top, etc...is 1 easier to drop into a usdm 95 240 than the other?

-How difficult is the SR job, i've heard from a few that its not that difficult to do, are there well known problems with the swap? ie: electrical or mechanical?

-Will the stock 5spd work with the SR20? (doubting this)

the stock KA tranny won't work with the SR20, search the forums for your question on the SR20, there have been several discussions on this that you can look into

welcome

yea search around the forum, there's plenty of info on the SR, and any other engine you'd drop into a 240. depending on your goals, boosting the stock KA engine is usually a cheaper way to go than SR.

haha yea i was reading up on the forums for a good 2-3hrs last night just readin threads left to right AFTER i posted this (go figure huh ahah). it seems the .4 extra displacement of the KA is what seems to catch most's eyes. I figure going SR would be a good platform to start on..for my tastes. The SR seems to have some pretty cheap parts. Ontop of that, the motor that came with my car has about 95k miles on it. not too shabby for a 95, but i need something lower mileaged due to lots of daily driving and road trips. I'm a big 4g63 fanatic due to the power potential. NO OFFENSE WHATSOEVER TO NISSAN: but i used to think the SR20 was ALMOST on the same level as the 4g but cant say so after reading..this makes me really miss my evo. 350+whp evos daily driven on 93oct are so common on safe boost.

?? hope youre not referring to the above JUN Silvia?? that is not a front end conversion, that is an authentic S15. i know its an aftermarket bumper, thats pretty obvious, i was asking what the bumper is. I'm not THAT noob guys. Just noob to the 240 section, elite in the Evo field tho.

LOL. I dunno, imo it's going to take a LOT to get a 240 to somewhere comparable to an Evo... like some big freakin' wheels (tires) and some RB Skyline powered action...

haha nooo...i dont have my evo any more. i sold it a few months back and am looking into another car. I'm glad some of u guys recognize the power of the Evo...most other forums seem to bash on it. The new EvoIX dyno'd almost 400whp on C16 with ONLY an HKS RS intake, Catback, and MBC. Thats pretty impressive if i say so myself. The 240 project is just something to have fun with until i get myself into another Evolution or until I swap that SR20 back out for a Rb series motor.

why dont you go KA24DE-T.........it's not that hard.....and having a 2.4L Turbo for a daily driver is not that bad........i'm pushing 260HP at 10 PSI.....and now i'm running 15 PSI On Stock Internals
and i dont know how much Hp i'm pushing now......i've only got $2500.00 in my KA-T Project.....alot less then your going to pay for a SR or Rb Swap..........i just hate it when people allways think they have to go SR or Rb for HP.

My best friend has a 95 Eclipse GS-T with alittle bolt on's and running 17 PSI on stock internals and i can take him.....and i know that the 4g63 has alot of power.......i think the
KA24de-turbo is about on the same level with the 4g63

HERE I AM - SORRY I'M LATE.

First of all, the SR is illegal in this country. Make sure you really know what that means.

Second, good that you're reading up on SR info - but don't limit yourself here - there's already tons of info on the SR swap on the Internet in general with probably 100% of the answers to your questions.

Third, you can't compare a 240sx to an Evo people. And BTW you can't compare any 'dealer bought" EVO (I don't care what bolt ons it has) to a real Evolution like this one I drove a few years back (OT, but I'll say that it spun wheels from a standing start in 4th) =P

Before you jump on the engine swap bandwagon be sure you know what you're getting in to, whether it's RB or SR. The KA-T option is gaining popularity again with all the crackdowns on illegal engine swaps on the streets.

Welcome, btw.

hey thanks a lot for ur post...

yeah im VERY aware of motor swaps being illegal. I read the FAQ sections

Yeah i've read up on KA-T's. the reason i'm looking into an SR instead is because mainly i want to get a lower mileaged motor (an SR with 40-60k is better than my current KA with almost or over 100k) and if i get the SR, i won't be upgrading much at the beginning. Just a turbo motor and leave it as is for a bit. Also the SR20 seems like a good platform to start on rather than the KA24 (no legitimate reason, maybe just taste?). The big advatnage i see is the 2.4 VS 2.0. As for comparing it to an evo, you're right, its completely diff cars, only thing they have in common are they are japanese and 4cylinder cars with a turbocharger. I miss my evolution to death and am not expecting a 240 to satisfy me the way the Evo did. I just want a fun daily driver.
