I think i got a 240sx:)

I recently called a guy about a 240sx for sale. I called and asked if he would take a trade on a cr125, and gladly he took it! I have some questions, id like to start drifting, what are the main components needed for drifting, and how hard is it to do the sr20det swap.
thanks,
Zach

to drift, a car is usually gonna be one of the "main components" trust me it'll help out LOTS:eek: but seriously read around some, with this topic you'll find out alot more and alot quicker buy searching , try it out it's fantastic:thumb:

ok thanks, the cars an 89 coupe, do they pull somewhat hard stock?

For a SR swap, you need to know a little about mechanics. If you can use tools then you can do it. The hardest part is finding a good one and getting the wiring done. If you have the mechanic know how and the right tools then you should be good.

There is a lot of information on this site. Just do a lot of researching

I would go out and drive it, but he hasnt delivered it yet. I was comparing to an integra gsr, my buddy has one.

suspension first... if you're building a drift car, you need to start there... get some nice coilovers, tie rods, tension rods, strut bars.. basically make all the body roll go away, then mess around and find settings you like... you can drift a stock KA fairly easy, especially if you have a nice suspension setup.. depending on the miles on the engine, I would even consider just turboing your ka and you'll be set... but an sr20det swap is going to cost you $3k+ after everythign is installed, and you'll probably need a new clutch and what not if you're going to be a "hardcore" drifter lol...

Personally I would throw come steelies on there with some okay tires in the front and whatever in the back, and go mess around in dirt, gravel, rain whatever, and learn teh basics before you start modding your car.. or else you just ruin your new parts by hitting curbs, and such... but what do I know, everything I know, i've only read, not from acual expirence.. Search the forums, and you'll learn plenty.. enjoy!

Thanks Irb, I heard a lsd helps alot, is it really neccesary though?

lrb_2000 08-20-2005 07:48 PM

I would say it is... it's possible to drift without an lsd, but really, I would just find a VLSD off a 180sx, or a 91+ 240sx that has one... or off a 300zx, do a search and find what LSD's are compatable.. in the gravel, dirt, rain or whatever, and open diff is fine because there's not going to be any traction anyways, but on pavment, and open diff will only spin one tire making it harder to control the car..

there's no point in spending $800+ on an LSD when you're just beginning.. you can pick up some of those vlsd for around $150.. put some nice fluid in them and you're good.

ok, do you know any companys that sell a turbo kit for the ka?

lrb_2000 08-20-2005 08:05 PM

These guys make really good turbo kits and have some good prices. They sell them for the SOHC 89-90 and DOHC 91-98
http://www.import-autoperformance.com/

These guys make good products, but are kinda spendy.

You can always piece together your own kit, the only hard part is the innercooler piping it seems..but it will be cheaper most the time.

check out...

http://www.ka-t.org

do to google.com and search ka24det, ka24det manifolds, ect..

packdaddy 08-20-2005 08:10 PM

This might be a dumb question but can the internals handle the turbo? This is a high mileage car.

pooptown 08-20-2005 08:13 PM

just how many miles, cause I've heard that on stock internals that the safe amount is about 7 psi, correct me if I"m wrong though

packdaddy 08-20-2005 08:15 PM

190,000 lol thats why i was asking about the sr20.

lrb_2000 08-20-2005 08:16 PM

yeah.. I would recommend a rebuild, or buy a ka24de if you're going to turbo the ka... otherwise, go with an sr20det front clip...
