looking for what others would do. if i get my car totaled out im picking up the 240 for $500 that a buddy owns. new altinator and fender be about 220, paint is 100, i got some metal to make subfram braces and strut bars out of. and i have set aside for struts and springs. with a little over $1000 what would you get? its a 90 240sx hatch, with a 130k sohc engine

I would either rebuild the SOHC or swap in a DOHC

VG30DE from a 1990-1996 300zx Its a V6 222 crank horsepower. I might do that this summer but its not worth it UNLESS you do your own labor to bring the cost down. Lot of custom work but I have my dad and two brothers to help me.

Actually yes the Vg is very heavy but you can mount it farther back cause its only three cylinders long. Gives it a mid-engine placement kinda like the corvette Lots of room in the front (good for turbocharging later on). Milage....You wont lose THAT much. Yeah...Rebuild your SOHC I hear its easier to get power out of that than the DOHC KA. VG isnt for everyone...

but how much more hp/tq do you get from the vg then the ka or the ka-d? i definitly want to stay on the domestic side of things, i need the car for work and i cant wait a week for a started to come from overseas lol. that sounded weird. i am definitly power crazy, but i need some reliability. to me the sohc has the least amount of parts to break then up to the dohc then the vg, all turbo of course. anyone have a listing comparing these engines all out?

some pics of someones car off of another forum

He moved all the Brake hoses, master cylinder, clutch cylinder, and more, into the dash board to give him enough room for the V6. Amazing work, totally custom.

hmmm, while that looks very sexy, my car is a daily driver. so any fabrication needs to be done in at least a day on the weekend. rules from the wife are i have to spend one day with the family. i work mad hours all week lone 1.5 hours away from home each way. i think ill go back to sohc vs dohc

the KA already has somewhat of a mid-engine placement... technically speaking.
