msd 6al and baster coil2
msd 6al and baster coil2
can i use the msd 6al ignition box and the blaster coil2 on my sr20? I just got a really go deal on the two, both for 200.00 brand new. either way it was a good deal and i can use it on my 88 mr2 sc, but since i am trying to complete my sr swap this weekend and i will be running the stock ignition system for awhile i wanted to push the ignition a bit cuz i plan on getting the split fire system but it is a bit costly for me since i have shelled out over 4900 in the sr swap thus far. I can't wait for the boost.
6al = 234.95+tax (autozone)
blaster2 = 39.96+tax (advance auto parts)
total = 296.90 including tax VS 200.00 including tax
its a deal.....

correct me if im wrong but there is 4 coils on the sr20??? if that is the case then it would be hard as hell to use an msd ignition system... they are designed to fire more power to a coil but i dont know how it would fire 4 seperate coils...
as far as the sci (import 4 banger box) it is the same as the 6al but designed to rev up to 11,000 rpm...with a built in 2 step rev limiter...
msd 6 is a cd ignition box...
msd 6al is also a cd ignition box with a built in rev limiter...
sci is a cd ignition system with built in rev limiter and 11,000 rpm....

if you are going to do the msd i would suggest that you use the blaster ss coil... they can handle more voltage than a blaster 2 coil and they have a smaller more compact shape and design than the blaster 2 coils...weather you go with the 6 6al or the sci... use the blaster ss coil... it is 40 bucks here in tn...
part numbers are as follows...
msd6a pn 6200 105 to 115 mj per spark
msd6al pn 6420 105 to 115 mj per spark
msdsci pn 6300 105 to 115 mj per spark
blaster 2 coil chrome pn 8200 max voltage 45,000
blaster 2 coil red pn 8203 max voltage 45,000
blaster ss coil pn 8207 max voltage 48,000

ps... if you want your tach to work... get the tach adapter befor you start... this way you can do the whole install at the same time... give yourself about 2 hours for the whole install... including mounting and running wires...
the dis 4 is designed fr distributrless ignition systems (that is what the dis 2 and dis 4 stand for) that is paying a lot of cash for something you wont use 90% of... it might work on an sr if you can get the dis 4 to run as a 4 banger... but the way it is set up is a dis 2 works on 2 coil 4 bangers... dis 4 works on 3 or 4 coil 6 or 8 cylinders...
im gunna send an email t the tech department to see if the dis4 can be used on 4 coil 4 cylinder cars... will have an answer soon i hope...

the 6al and the sci both have the same soft touch rev control... just like the dis4... that is still a lot of change to spend on something that you wont use most of... when you can get it all in a package that you will use...
i still stick by the 6al or the sci and the blaster ss coil...

it's not an sr, but prettier.
