dude i have just but one question...why do u want to swap sr? why don't people first consider all there options. jeebus. keep an open mind people why does everyone think they have to buy a 240 then throw an sr in it.
i thought it would be cheaper overall if i just got a 240 with a sr right away, i wasn't thinking about my abilities yet, just saving money. plus sr's are easy to get and well known, so yea.
i'm not being closed minded, i was just sorta doing my research. i guess people tend to get arrogant damn fast and think they can handle a sr20, or just don't realize the power. so yea... i dunno, just my thoughts.

... SR20 isn't some godly engine. It doesn't have that much more power than a KA... KA has torque. A lot, for what it is... SR20 swap is expensive, and you can get more power out of a KA-T, or RB20DET, with less money than a complete SR20 swap is. Your basic Redtop SR20DET swap is 205CHP or about 180WHP... I don't think $3000 for 50 more HP over stock is too good of a deal to me. Plus the time to install it...it's not like, you won't be able to handle an SR, it's the fact that you don't have a 240. You need to be able to drive the car first, and decide later. Instead of jumping on the SR20 bandwagon with everyone else.
haha, I'm just trying to explain to people, that the SR20 isn't that great. Maybe when modded, it can be pretty nice, but a stock swap isn't going to be worth the time and money you put into it. Find you a nice 240sx, years 91-93, 5speed. Make sure it's stock, or very lightly modded..(don't understand why people buy modded cars that have obviously taken tons of abuse.. )and have fun... you'll be very suprised how much power the KA has for a stock engine, in a little car.
damn, so much SR bashing around here... c'mon guys, don't hate on the SR just because people want to buy it for the wrong reasons. Ka vs. SR debate is endless and really pointless because it's a matter of preference and execution. Personally, I want an SR becoz I want an engine that likes to rev~ yeah you can build a Ka to rev higher, but it doesn't change the fact that it's still going to make the bulk of its power in the lower bandwith. Don't get me wrong, I love my Ka right now because it's definitely plenty fun~ I just think an SR would be even more fun somewhere else down the road...
if you slam the brakes mid-turn in a fwd car, you're loading the the front suspension and unloading the weight in the rear of the car~ you can easily kick the tail out on your Celica or any other fwd car. Go find an empty parking lot and practice counter-steering... and don't feel bad~ I spun out my zenki going 30 mph just a few weeks ago in the middle of downtown Boston because I wasn't paying enough attention (road was wet and I got on the throttle too much) Thank God nothing was around me.

i had some scary sheist happen the other day which scared me into getting a stock 240 rather than a sr20 powered. i have a celica right now and i was going on this windy road. there was this idiotic squirrel that ran in front of me and stopped, i slammed on the brakes, through natural reaction. well i don't know how, but i managed to get my rear end out and basically into a "drift" position, and since the celica is fwd, man i was screwed. i somehow saved it but DAMN that sheist is scary. going sideways is totally different when it actaully happens. i think it might be different if i was trying to drift, because i would be expecting it, but still, i guarantee im gonna freak out my first time out.

I'll just chime in and say that the SR is definitely a matter of opinion, and just because people tell you NOT to get one, isn't the reason you shouldn't. If you want to get one, then get one. You can learn to drive on an SR just as well as you can learn to drive on a KA.
Personally, I don't see it reasonable for me to spend money on getting an SR, because I have a 98 240, with a pretty capable engine. It would be too much of a waste for starters, not only that but I can build my internals for Turbo, and I have more displacement. I know I can achive my HP goals with my car now.
If SR20 is reasonable for you, it's reasonable for me. I'll tell you the reason why most people bash on others who say "SR20". It's because there are so many posers out there who want to get into drift, and when they search around, a lot of forums and threads will build up the SR20 to be some GODLY RACING ENGINE, even the RB series engines...in turn, these posers come posting up like they know what they're talking about, and it's just natural for people to start flamming them for their stupidity.
Not saying that YOU are one of these people, but doing a little research here and there to realize what is good for YOU will get you a long way.
Personally, I would make a goal, and reasearch it myself, instead of taking it from some random people on the internet. I'm sure there are a lot of knowledgable people out there, but there are twice as many idiots--so just watch out.
Good luck with your plans in the future, man. Keep us posted and let us know.

yea, i was basically getting a general idea of whats good and whats not and everything. im gonna do some more research and see whats best overall.
as for me sliding out in the celica, i wasn't too embarrassed (sp?) i was just freaked out cuz it scared the sheist outta me. thankfully i was all alone on the road, or i might not be here right now. even though it was scary as hell, it just made me want to go out to an abandoned parking lot that much more.
