Oh The Confusion!

Here is what I dont get. You have the:

300zx- 3.0L
240sx- 2.4L
350z - 3.5L
Some people call the silvias 200sx in some parts of the world because its a 2.0
Then you have the 180sx......which is a SR20, lol. They made s13 180sx with the black top SR from late 94 to 1998 while also making the s14's now with a s14 black top with vtc. BUT WHY didnt they call it a 200sx? I would think that the silvia from 89-90 since it had a CA18, they would call that the 180sx hence the 1.8 . Something that has always confused me. Anyone can help? Thanks

Robbie

ok, long story short:

89-90 S13 silvia, 180SX
CA18DE(T) 1.8L

91-94 S13 silvia, 180SX
SR20DE(T) 2.0L

simply put, the name stayed the same for name recognition purposes. the 180 continued production even with the new generation of "S" cars because the people loved them. business = supply and demand;)

94-98 S14 silvia, S13 180SX (japan)
SR20DE(T) 2.0L
same story here (also consider that the 180SX was never marketed outside of asia; yes the 180, not our usdm 240 hatchback; there IS a difference...).
94-98 S14 200SX (europe, australia, new zealand)
SR20DE(T) 2.0L
S14 was the first generation sold new by nissan in europe, australia, and new zealand. the other markets had S13's, but they were imported. the S14 already had the 2.0L SR20 by that time, hence the name "200SX".

89-98 S13, S14 240SX (u.s.)
KA24(D)E 2.4L
engine displacement remained at 2.4L.

??-96 Z31, Z32 300ZX
VG30DE(TT) 3.0L
name associated w/displacement in u.s. in japan, simply named "Fairlady Z", therefore, no change in name from 2.4L (u.s. 240Z), 2.6L (260Z), 2.8L (280ZX), 3.0L (300ZX), or 3.5L (350Z). screwy, ain't it?:p

See I knew that, But i think the "sx" part would keep i alive. Plus the look didnt change. Its like calling the 350z the 300z for popularity crap. NISSAN! DONT DO THAT ANYMORE, lol.

Europe got the 180sx it was called the 200sx. They only got the RS13 in Europe, no coupe, and it ONLY came with the CA18DE(T) for the entire S13 generation. They didn't switch to SR20's 'til the S14.
