Pros and Cons of a 1993 240SX

Hello everyone. I have been a fan of the 240 for a few years and I'm turning 16 in a few days and I'm trying to figure out if I should buy a 240 for my first car. I have never driven one before and no one has really told me what they like or dislike about the car. I need some feedback from some owners. I'm looking at a 1993 240 and I like the way it looks and all but I hae no idea what the pros or cons are. So can some one help me out? Thank you.

man 240's are the best cars out there! you can do so much with them, they make civics seem like they have barely any aftermarket parts. 240's have the option of doing a front end conversion (silvia), engine swaps (like other cars of course), tons of body kits, and they are best known for the drifting! PLUS if its a coupe you can do a skyline conversion like me, im going to do the r32 conversion, just waiting for the taillights! so remember 240sx or nothing!

It's an old car buy it and find out.
Anything used will have problems......

I believe Honda has more aftermarket support than 240's, I've seen countless other car manufacturers with cars that have front end conversions, engine swaps is nothing 240 specific, almost every car has a ton of body kits available, and they are best known for drifting because thats all that super jdm wannabe drift king kids think of them for...

is it just me or does the drift bandwagon grow very exponentially over time?

240's suck get a civic

lrb_2000 11-18-2005 06:08 AM

^ agreed. Worst car ever. Nothing but problems..

no seriously though... if you were to get a ''93 you're going to have problems... lots of them... don't know anyone that bought a 240, and hasn't had any problems.. it's a used car, and it's 13 years old.

Basically, I don't think it should be a first car. I would get something more reliable, and learn to drive first. A front wheel drive, 5 speed.

I know the last time I was in Walmart they did not have any 240sx aftermarket parts. Now the honda on the other hand... intakes, lights, lots of plastic chrome thingy's...

The day they start selling 240sx aftermarket parts in walmart will be the day I consider selling my zenki.

Best advice yet!

240's a very reliable car, Nissan is an awesome company. If it's your first car you're going to have to get an older one either way (unless you are rich I suppose....) I don't see how it being rwd is going to affect anything....

If you want the car, go for it!! Do what makes YOU happy not other people on the intranet.

CowboyTurbo 11-18-2005 09:41 PM

ignore the haters, prove them wrong. honestly the best way to learn the most is to just read anything and everything that catches your eye on this and any 240 forum. Ask questions as a last resort when you have exhausted all other sources. It saves everybody involved some time and grief.

l2aine 11-18-2005 10:28 PM

If you buy a 240sx, make sure you're buying it because you want it - not because of the fad.

A lot of newbs buy 240sx's stricktly because of the fad, then all they do is ***** and complain about a 13+ year old car not being perfect. There WILL be work needed on most cars except for late model S14's. Face it - when the cars were bought they weren't "collectors" material - they were beaters to some, so they've lived most of their life as daily driven beater cars.

Personally I bought a 240sx because I always wanted one, and for me fixing it and upgrading it is worth the effort because my reward is being abole to drive what I worked on.

All the posers who ***** constantly about it should stick to Civics LOL
